Biologist, birder, enjoys watermelon.
Ridiculous. A transparent attack on the ESA to allow for continued development. Harm to habitat is unequivocally harm to a species and a threat to their existence.

In case you missed it: We're offering gratis membership and gratis #WOS2025 meeting registration to any ornithologist impacted by recent actions by the federal government, and are soliciting input on additional ways to offer support.

Best in the West...again 😉 🏆 🎉

Congratulations to the Wildlife student quizbowl team for their victory at last weekend's Wildlife Society Western Section Conference in Visalia. The team beat out Cal Poly SLO in the final match 130-90 to claim the West Region title!

Obvious environmental damage aside - this doesn't even make sense politically. National Parks are beloved and have overwhelmingly bipartisan support. Who hears this and feels good about it?

A cool paper from my grad school advisor Matt Johnson and former lab at @calpolyhumboldt.bsky.social comparing a Napa-specific nest box occupancy model for barn owls in other ag areas of CA. I collected some of the data during my time on the project! wildlife.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1...

Our results suggest that local data should be used to make the most reliable predictions of barn owl nest box use. Until those data are available, general recommendations should be made from models t....

Cool paper. A little surprising that habitat connectivity isn't discussed, particularly for an urban-dwelling species.

Great work by CDFW, SMMRCD, and others to help protect an important population of endangered southern California steelhead in Topanga Creek in the wake of the Pallisades Fire.

Decided to jump in on being more active on Bluesky. Planning to share cool science in action with an admitted bias toward projects I've been involved with. Also will probably include some of my perspectives on conservation work. TBD!
