Populism pushes simple solutions to complex problems, and simple solutions fall apart when they actually meet reality. I don't think Truss is a bad example of this - which was really the only point I was making.

She was elected by Tory party members. Touting "populist" tax cutting amazingness at them. Which was never going to work because markets/bonds/etc.

(just because they appealed to wealthy right wingers doesn't mean they weren't populist)

People can be populist without crashing. They can be organised and get elected into positions with real power, and then the whole thing falls to bits when it meets reality. c.f. Liz Truss (the main issue here is what's being posed will undoubtedly implode if it gets the opportunity to meet reality).
