when i say “love it,” i mean that i’m obsessed with janet malcolm’s book in a way that goes beyond loving and hating it (i’m a plathie, so obviously i have issues with how she writes about plath) but it’s just so good in a completely bonkers way.

for our upcoming peer review, i compared it to how you get constant critique and feedback in acting classes or film where you take the constructive criticism back to the drawing board where one is constantly leaving one's ego at the door in order to improve their craft

when i gave students a difficult theory reading for this week, i explained how it's similar to how in dance you get challenging choreography that seems impossibly complex at the time and you break it down and practice. you sit with the difficulty.
