Sometimes I write. Sometimes it’s here.
Sleepy kittens.

This is from a couple of days ago, but we went from swatting at and hissing at kittens to eating along side them in about a week. Proud of you, Festus, you old grumpy tabby man!

I had forgotten that kitten sleeping positions included sleeping on your shoulder/head/face/neck. So far they’ve been polite about not smothering me. Pretty sure I’ve earned my Cat Fur Sommelier Level 1 though, at least.

Meet Jewel and Kepler! Took a bit longer than 5 days thanks to a seroma and a cold, but they are here! Festus is still growly but he’s an old man. He will eventually get over it so they can all be in the same room.

Festus is footloose and fancy-free and doesn’t know he’s getting a little sister in 5 days.

On the trip back I took a couple of photos. This one stood out. I took it from the plane but it’s a pretty one of Mt hood.

El Retiro was the last city on the Colombia visit list. This town is known for its furniture making. It was a really nice place!

Back to Rionegro! The yearly empanada festival was going on when we returned. It was raining but that didn’t stop us.

Santa Marta was amazing. The weather was “beach”, and I burned myself, including the tops of my conspicuously white feet (thankfully not too bad). What’s better than a piña colada? A piña colada served in the piña it’s made with!

Medellín traffic was the thing nightmares are made of. At one point we were stuck behind a car with flashers on and a bus. A taxi was pushing his way in, motorcycles were speeding between it all, and some guy pushing a fruit cart tried to get in front of us. Yes. A fruit cart. 🤷‍♀️

Guatapé also has a giant rock, which has apparently 600+ steps to climb to get to the top. Considering how I felt after the 500+ to the top of the Vatican 7 years ago, I opted out and just enjoyed it from a distance.

Next up, the very colorful Guatapé.

On to Colombia. After departing Europe we flew through Panama on the way down. KLM didn’t disappoint. The first few days we were in Rionegro.

Amsterdam. Ah, Amsterdam. If only I could afford to live here :) it’s such a wonderful city. Mind the bike bells!

Hoorn! I loved the small town but not far from a big town feel of this place. Sep 28.
October 25, 2025 at 9:24 PM
Kinderdijk! This was a quick stop but next time I’m in the Netherlands I hope to make this a day trip from wherever I’m at.
October 25, 2025 at 9:19 PM
Dordrecht and Rotterdam. Sep 26. There was a lot to see in Rotterdam and we did a lot of walking. I’ll need to go back because that seemed like a place that there was more to see than I had time (as most places are!).

Sep 25 - Xanten, Germany, for some Roman ruins.
October 25, 2025 at 9:03 PM
Sep 24 (apparently my last post should have said Sep 23!). Nijmegen! How I only saved two photos is beyond me.

Time to catch up on travels! The whole trip was amazing! I’ll post my favorite four photos from each day in separate posts. Starting with Sep 21, Maastricht!

Antwerp: An omelet, a cat cafe, Rubens Museum, coffee, farmers market, cheese, walking in the drizzly rain, wine, gelato. If I had to describe a perfect Saturday today would be really close.

Day 1 in Antwerp. It’s 24C (79F), sunny, and beautiful outdoors. The old town area is super cute from what I’ve seen just outside the train station! We can’t check into accommodations yet so it’s time to explore and get a bite to eat.

The Ferrari factory tour was very cool! As someone that worked in a manufacturing/factory environment it was amazing to see how they set up their work flow and see it in action. I highly recommend it if you’re into that kind of thing. Photos aren’t allowed inside. They are in the museum though!

I did a lot of walking on my first full day in Maranello. All the food was amazing yesterday, and what’s not to love about pizza, gelato, wine and espresso?

Today will be the Ferrari factory tour. I can’t take photos inside but I do have someone outside ones.

I’m not sure how one is *supposed* to start a vacation, but this seems like a good way to do a great many things, including starting a vacation.
