With Endless RPG 2.x, I shifted the focus to supporting those who want to play D&D solo or perhaps in a small group without a DM. I still support DMs using it, but mainly, I want to provide a way for solo players to 'explore' a random map.

After battling orcs and goblins, you finally make it to the bottom of the cave to face the horrifying boss... Crazy Cat Lady. A CR4 fey who enchants her horde of giant cats with acidic urine.

Do you run... or do you fight?

I think AI can be used ethically. I like to use it to brainstorm different ways to say things like "a group of orcs attack you". It's basically helping me come up with synonyms for phrases. But as a full time artist, writer, editor, programer, etc? No thanks.

Endless RPG provides random maps filled with encounters, traps, treasures and other surprises. The fog-of-war discovery system allows exploration for solo players or groups playing without a dungeon master, while the DM mode gives a peek behind the curtain.

I've been playing around with a PC port of one of my first roguelike games, Endless Nights. It was based on a Neverwinter Nights module series I did.

It has a skill based progression system and killer public domain graphics ;)

I think the biggest failing of D&D 5e (and 2024) is how the classes seem to blend into each other without having any flavor of their own. I'd love to rewrite them from scratch, but another idea to 'fix' them would be to break them apart and design a create-a-class system.

One aspect of D&D hard to manage is the idea of the characters blasting encounters with everything they have with the expectation of just camping every 1-3 encounters. But part of the strategy is determining if it is worth casting that fireball spell.

RPGs Should Not Forget Resource Management as a Cornerstone to Strategy
One thing many current computer and console RPGs miss, which was prevalent in old-school D&D, was the idea of resource management as a key…

I'm doing work on the enhanced encounters with the drow. They are fun because they'll be using the more magic-centric version of some classes, such as favoring Eldrich Knights and Arcane Tricksters.

These changes should be in Endless RPG within a few weeks along with some other goodies.

I'm working on converting Dragon Lairs to my new encounter system in Endless RPG. The new encounter system allows leveled-up monsters (i.e. 5th level goblin fighter, etc.) and monster augments such as a large version or strong version of the monster. Even injured versions or those in stealth.

I've always hated alignment in D&D. Unless it is a being from another plane of existence such as the abyss, "true" evil just doesn't happen.

Even the gnolls who who raid the village and eat the humans aren't evil...

They are simply hungry.

During COVID, I 'invented' a TTRPG for my daughter. Outcomes were determined by a d6 roll with 1-2 being a success, 5-6 failure, and 3-4 partial success/failure. For combat, damage was determined by how quickly she could solve math problems. It was fun and educational :)

My latest update to Endless RPG for Solo D&D adds a host of evil mages from enchanters to cultists to the mix. These encounters can provide nice variety as different types of mages seek different types of protection such as conjurer's summoning elementals or enchanters beguiling creatures.

It's sad any time a massive disaster happens our politicians and media pundits turn it into a political finger-pointing moment. A U.S. city is burning and people want to turn it into a "DEI is bad" or "see what happens when climate change is ignored" moment.

Our leaders need to have more empathy.

With all the talk of goblins and anti-colonialism on that other social media platform, it's important to keep in mind:

1) Understanding the point of view of adversaries is good world-building
2) It goes both ways: wood elves can be evil!
3) Sometimes the reason is: human flesh tastes good!

I finally got around to posting a video walkthrough of Endless RPG and the features it provides for solo play D&D 5e / Pathfinder 1e. The recent inclusion of being able to choose a boss encounter group should really help solo players live their own story.

Sadly, Dark Alliance just wasn't very good. I tried playing it and only lasted an hour before I had to put the controller down.

Look: Making games is hard. There's a secret sauce to it that has no logic and can't always be perfectly replicated.

I've never messed around with @roll20.net other than a casual look, but some of the posts by @dmsguild.com has me curious on how much could be done in a Roll20 mod.

I'd love to convert my NWN module (Endless Nights VI) to a modern platform, but it's huge with a lot of roguelike components.

One thing I always liked doing to mix up D&D campaigns was to use a different method for rolling attributes. I've even done 3d6 straight down the line.

The DM always sets the difficulty. A party with all 18s can have the same amount of difficulty as a party of all 12s.

Hit points are one of the silliest things in D&D and other TTRPGs, but I haven't seen a great system to replace them that doesn't become overly complicated. Some systems divide them into Soft HP and Hard HP (Soft=minor damage, Hard=lasting physical damage). Others put Armor HP into the equation

I'm pondering if Endless RPG should continue supporting mobile versions. Mobile makes up about 15% of sales and yet is 90% of the hassle when preparing a release.

My new encounter system can modify D&D monsters various ways, which puts a lot of info on the screen, which is harder to see on mobile.

I strive for some balance between railroading my players and running a sandbox for my D&D sessions. But if I'm being honest, it's usually more of a sandbox. I'm always up for what the players want to do and ready to pivot. Any story I had planned can be altered or delayed.

I like a lot of the rules in D&D 5e, but I've never been a big fan of the classes. They blend together way too much.

I keep daydreaming of redesigning all of the classes. Wouldn't it be cool to have a cleric of a death god whose spell list is 90% different than other clerics?
