A bare breeze flows through an April evening
Rippling the Dogs Mercury carpeting the woodland floor
A hare breaks and bolts across its surface
Slaloming #Ash saplings
Slowly lost amongst increasing upstanding density
Leaving a long green shiver to dissipate

Read and share in the journey along with the accumulating discomfort.
It's worth it 🙂

Many thanks to everyone who's shared and followed this (unexpectedly lengthy) walk-in-progress over the past few days. It's much appreciated. The full thread (128 posts) is below.

A walk from Leeds to Goole, via the River Aire, the Aire and Calder Navigation, the Knottingley and Goole Canal, the New Junction Canal and the Dutch River, 6.45am to 9.52pm Friday 26 September.

An improvised, illustrated thread of indeterminate length, part reflection, part reconstruction. 1/

We may look like we refuse to #associate with each other, but we all look for opportunity and threat
Appearances can be deceptive
You haven't worked that out just yet

I really enjoyed it. I first read your night walk from Donny to Goole. I know the landscape and could relate to where you were, likewise with this one. Your Ridgeway walk sounded epic too.

Dad was a teacher

He left the game
Not on his watch
Not in his name
That teaching only led to numbers
A spelling score was not the same
As building people

My Dad was a teacher

Dad was a teacher

Lost his way
Lost his spirit
On the day that
They decided that a score
In single subjects mattered more
Than how each pupil
Whirred and clicked
They only wanted boxes ticked

But Dad was a teacher

Dad was a teacher

Not every lesson in a class
Not one to let occasion pass
His trips away into the wild
On fell and moor
Gave each child
A sense of awe
Adventures
Never had before

Dad was a teacher

Dad was a teacher
Loved his maths
Loved his kids
Loved the paths
Used weekly for cross country runs
Wasn't just
About the sums

Dad was a teacher

Each lap
Digging out an unsustainable pace
Breathing becoming ragged
Legs increasingly leaden
And the #elastic
Holding them to the group stretches
Until it inevitably snaps
Whiplash
And now it's survival
It never really was racing

Nigel's publisher really didn't do much in the way of research before putting his autobiography "My Struggles" into print.
Thankfully as soon as the issue was raised it didn't take them long to make the decision to #Pulp the lot, saving us common people from its horrors.
