I agree! In 27 days 📆 I'm going to do just that. I've flown ✈️ many times, but this will be the first time I've left on a ➡️🎫 one-way ticket. I'm treating myself to a new life, a new home, a new country. I'm beyond excited. My mind is fading at the edges.

"Short-timer" began in 1906 in military slang & "Syndrome" was added in 1967 by Captain Jerome Dowling, a psychiatrist with the US Army during the Vietnam War.
Now we both know.

Am I leaving the US because it's turning fascist? Not exactly. I've had a deep urge to move abroad since I was in my early teens. Yes, recent conditions do make it sound even better, but honestly, this something I've been dreaming about for 35 years.

FINALLY have my passport back in-hand, with the visa "vignette" attached. WHAT. A. RELIEF. Dancing with bureaucracy is a painfull pasttime. Why did I sign up for this again?

I'll have comments indeed. The communication process throughout the application process was abysmal. I am under no illusion that anyone will read, much less take action on, this survey, but it will feel good to get some stress out.

"WHY THE UK and not any one of the other less insane places in the world?!" no one asked. Well, basically because I have a unique opportunity to move to the UK, and even with that it's been quite an ordeal getting the paperwork sorted, and I don't have any such opportunities elsewhere.

Been thinking about starting a public blog for the new life I'm starting. Considered Youtube/TikTok, decided those are too much work & I'm not keen on inflicting my sorry mug on the world. I like Bsky, tho it's unlikely anyone will see this, & if they do, it's even more unlikely they'll subscribe.
