I think meta is one of the worst things to have ever happened to the VR space. Their headsets have always been really good hardware, but starting with the mandatory Facebook login for the quest 2, and then later with their further emphasis on productivity over gaming, they just slaughtered it.

I may not have ADHD so I can't comment on that first suggestion, but I feel like both of these are probably not great ideas.

Does it even still trace rays? Or at that point is it just a glorified refreshed 1080?

In any case, that's pretty fuckinng awesome. Glad for you!

It's gives you a lot less, but the general philosophy is that you're supposed to make what works well specifically for your project. I'm friends with a few graphics programmers and they prefer the flexibility and immediate access of godots pipeline compared to other engines.

You gonna say what the positive news is, or just telling us you have some?

For being expert programmers, this kind of reasoning makes it seem like their problem solving and logic deduction skills are pretty fucking bad.

The thing that gets me most about these kinds of posts is that they never seem to wonder why people are leaving or protesting something, and just assume menial fixes will bring everyone back.

Why are people leaving twitter john? Why are governments trying to remove twitter from the app store Tim?

Forgive my ignorance, but what happened with carmack? I think the last I heard of him was the basedcon thing and him moving on to AI development.

This sounds like a typical monkeys paw situation

The thing that gets me about the growth thing is that it's not even that reliable of an argument. I don't have the links on hand, but I remember seeing some kind of study done last year where they found that twitter was objectively worse for marketing and brought in less engagement for legit devs.

Nah, even with all the layoffs - the industry is much bigger than it was just a decade ago. We just grew too fast during covid.

Unionization will help, but i doubt we see mass unionization and I don't think it is required. The CWA is doing good work but the uvw-cwa - seems a bit unhinged to me.

ive had some convos with friends about this, but im curious where your thoughts and experiences land given your time in the industry. is it unreasonable to say the industry likely wont survive without mass unionization?
