I wrote this seven years ago, reflecting on the overlap between AOC's inspiring victory and the Supreme Court's vicious assault on the rights of workers. Today, the juxtaposition is Zohran's win and the Court's assault on the very basis of citizenship. The imperative to win a just future remains.

Perhaps most critically, he was right that *political* reconstruction of the American South would never last without radical alterations to the South's *economic* system. He wanted to give the land of rich traitors to the freedmen. We should have listened.

Today is Thaddeus Stevens' Birthday. A Radical Republican Congressman during the Civil War, he was one of the most righteous, clear eyed political leaders this country has ever produced. In honor of his birthday, I'd like to make a thread of things he was right about.
