Avid sci-fi and fantasy geek. Fervent LFC fan. Avowed anti-fascist and leftist. Eternally depressed optimist. Chronically anxious misfit. Trans ally. He/him.
A dude at a sci-fi convention recently tried to shoot me with a replica Starfleet weapon.

Fortunately, I was un-phased but my friend was stunned.

The mainstream media is so obsessively concerned with providing, or appearing to provide, balance that they give equal weight to crackpot theories versus actual facts, thus giving the unhinged nonsense even a modicum of legitimacy that it simply does not deserve.

It's interesting how the "protect our women and kids" brigade, who were so vociferous about migrants staying in hotels are either conspicuously quiet or actively defending a rich, white man who runs a website that produces non-consensual and abusive images of women and children.

If you're trying to rationalise still being on X, then you should really reorientate your moral compass to a less shitty direction. Your use of a site propagating abuse and non-consensual images on demand is abetting that cesspit of hate and human depravity.

This is a good, albeit sobering read about the state of society. We need a revolution, not evolution of the current corrupt system that's controlled by a tiny cabal of oligarchs for their benefit and profit alone. The status quo must be challenged if we're to ever truly progress as a society.

I've been an avid fan of Star Trek ever since I was a little kid. The vision of an egalitarian, utopian future, free from prejudice and hate, has both captivated me and shaped my beliefs ever since. I'm not sure it has ever felt as distant in my lifetime as it does right now.

The continued demonisation of trans people here in the UK, and in the US, is utterly abhorrent. That they are forced to endure such prejudice and hateful rhetoric about their very existence, simply for being true to who they really are, is beyond shameful. Trans people deserve so much better.

Whilst there are so many people living in dire poverty, then there should be no such thing as billionaires and certainly, their wealth should not be increasing by trillions each year. Inequality is a root cause of so many problems and needs to be fixed if we're to progress as a society.

If people were genuinely concerned about migration, then they'd look to tackle the root causes like poverty, inequality, conflict, corruption and persecution. Instead, we get xenophobic policies that target the vulnerable and the desperate. It's just wrong.

I'm so tired of waking up every morning to more and more horrific news and a world that causes my mood to swing wildly between seething, righteous anger and unrelenting, debilitating despair. So very tired.
