Yup. It’s like Secondhand Smoking, we should call it ** Secondhand Physics** - People of USA need a good lesson on. Kinetic Energy.

It’s not enough - by a longshot. 30+ years after the internet arrived, only 2% of our trips in USA are on transit. Please start talking about how we are going to actually get far more TRACTION in alternative mobility + access.

Public transit works better in dense urban cores, and not very good in lower-density more suburban areas - where I estimate over 200 million live. Any transportation expert knows this. Not talking about urban density is a mistake when discussing the robotaxi future imo.

What’s even more remarkable is how big auto has avoided CAFE standards for years - with mainly making light trucks (and SUVs off of them), which have made roads less safe for smaller apt-sized vehicles. They lack the strengths and talents to address our climate challenges.

No matter how well intentioned, we need far better mobility alternatives to free most in USA from car dependency. Walking, biking, and transit have not done the job - at least in suburbia where over 200 million of US live.

We should be asking deep questions about the best | fastest way to end automobile dependency - in both dense urban and more suburban areas.

Fortunately one frog “Jumped out of the Pot” (and didn’t simmer in there until cooked!)

Stop buying gasoline. Get into *Passing Gas*. Walk and bike more. Drive electric, take transit, e-bikes, golf carts, maybe some taxis. Carpool. Live close to work. Stop buying gas if you don’t likes companies - as I don’t.

A lot of things need to change, and they can. It will happen faster imo - if every “entity” that wants to rapidly advance beyond automobile dependency in USA - find a way to work better together. Maybe starting a big coalition (or *GOalition*)

Or don’t understand the difference between a subject matter expert (SME) opinion writer, and an opinion writer, and a reporter. A SME might have understood how that first Apple computer in a wood box would lead to the iPhone, where a reporter would have knot.

Here is 90% of people in USA - going to work ALONE in their (oversized) car. But can’t have fast 50 lb e-bikes. We should make people at for all the space they waste with their car in our communities

The space we need for better bikes lanes can be found in the empty seats of the oversized cars. 90% of people in USA go alone to work in a car. Very complicated to address, but not impossible

A 3-ton SUV with bad brakes carries tons more (often fatal) kinetic energy than a 50-lb e-bike — yet we’re talking of regulating local vehicles, not the beast. We should better manage oversized car use. Let’s build respect and space for lighter, slower, more sustainable ways to move. We can do it.

I would not put it past them. (But all and all such actions seem to be signs of desperation - more like someone grasping for straws - like a kid going into a test that didn’t do their homework).

Kinda like the long term data on bus riders. If the rider has to make only 1 transfer on their trip - ridership drops 50%.

I’d guess it’s always been here, but more visible now. Of I had “cancer” I’d want to know about it ASAP. Seeing it is a step towards healing it imo.

Related: I would bet anything that Automobile Dependency is a big part of the cause of our country’s outrageously high level of Mass Shootings. It’s a reason we are so isolated and human contact is stunted :(

I hope more people come to think like you. I’ve been waiting for decades for carsharing companies to market a “local car” bundle with their “far cars”, highway-capable and can be rented by the hour. The small local cars can get you to the Far Car rental hub or pod location easily. Still waiting :(
