But they’ll have all those cute white babies to keep them busy!

The party that constantly emphasizes ‘freedom’ wants to take away freedom from American women in the name of a racist, misogynist pronatalism that will further set women back in this country.

That, say the conservatives, will result in more ‘homegrown’ population growth (read: white babies not from Africa, Asia, or South America).

Women are purposely being targeted - take away opportunity and they will have more babies. Get rid of professional opportunities. Get rid of health care that offers independence.

What will those women do? If Trump supporters have their way, they will no longer get an education. They will return to a more “traditional” role of having and raising children.
Got that?

What now? Well, we circle back to the issue of education. The redesignations of the above professions will have a chilling effect on enrollment, and the majority of those professions are women-dominated (see: education, social work, and nursing).

Now, though, the United States has drastically curtailed immigration and, as reported in today’s news, the President has announced a “permanent pause” on migration from “all Third World Countries.”

Some countries address this through immigration, because immigrant families generally have larger families and generate an influx of younger people into the population.

This is a well-documented pattern throughout the world (take my Human Geography class).
But what happens when your country's birth rate starts to plummet? When the younger generations are outnumbered by the older ones?

Those freedoms mean they are more independent and may well delay marriage and/or having children. And when they do have children, they have fewer children. Sometimes, they do not have children at all.

Here, too, is something to note. In advanced countries all over the world, women have the option to pursue higher education. They have property rights, voting rights, and they can hold their own bank accounts. They have access to birth control and abortion as needed.

These professions also include heavily unionized professions. So the conservatives get a win-win – they get a less educated populace (more easily manipulated and threatening to their agenda) and a less united workforce that that can be taken advantage of.

Many folks have noted that, apart from being an insulting slap in the face to the people in those demanding professions, the redesignation makes it much harder for people pursuing those careers to afford their education.

If we can see these tactics, it’s time for our country to take a long look in the mirror and decide if this is what we want, what our forces fought for in war, and what our guiding documents are meant to establish.
