The level of democracy enjoyed by the average citizen in 2022 regressed to 1986 levels. 72 % of the world's population, 5.7 billion people, were living under authoritarian rule. It didn’t occur overnight and happened entirely by design, forcefully instigated by a powerful, rich, hard right elite.
