When you remember the 80s DIY trend of wood panelling walls and thick textured wallpaper was to hide a myriad of WTFs to be discovered decades later for someone else to fix! Honestly I'm just glad there wasn't a wasp's nest in there or something!

Time for the annual posting of my favourite Christmas joke evah!

Turns out when you have a sharp enough blade, carving out a lino block can be quite fun, who knew! Last class yesterday but have caught the printing bug and will going back next term. This is yesterday's piece I printed using a Columbian press.

A quick four favourite first watches for November, a firm fave was Humanist Vampire with it's dead pan humour and witty one liners.
Majoneze was a short, sharp but fun FU to the patriarchy.

Missed class last week but had carved out my print and wasn't entirely convinced until it was printed but pretty happy with my first attempt at lino printing and learning what I need to work on. Could be the start of a new obsession!

In other news I signed up for another round of #printmaking techniques and also a course on Writing and Painting Practices for Professional Development. Anyway, I cut my penguin stencil a little small but not a bad first attempt at #screenprinting.

A collection of mostly collage pieces, a photo of a tower block and an embroidery hoop with a geometric shapes in primary colours stitched on it have been stuck to a wall as a planning exercise. Themes that run through these pieces are the use of geometric shapes such as circles, rectangles and triangles and primary colours such as bright yellows and bold blues. This weekend I did a collage for contemporary painting course at Leith Art School because I need to learn techniques to bring some ideas to life and ended up with the beginnings of a whole new collection I want to work on next year! This piece is called No. 4 - In Pieces and is taken from the collection Chaos Theory which is an abstract meditation on grief. I got annoyed at the internets, so I went outside and touched grass (caught up on some gardening) and finally put out the planters and divided the strawberry plants that had gone wild in the summer and this is what I got from six plants I bought from last year! Might open up a strawberry farm! 🍓🌱
Two tiered planters sat next to each other filled with strawberry nodes to root over winter, in front of the planters I have placed three red paving slabs and at the far end sits a large planter bag, also filled with nodes in the little pocket openings around the bag.

Been on a bit of a horror flex lately with reading, I haven't decided on my next read yet but probably gonna stay on theme seeing as it's October! Highly recommend all of these but really liked Eartheater and The Starving Saints so also, two new to me authors to add to my faves. 📚

This collection is taking so long I've decided to release it phases! Also I've decided this dark gold thread works better than the bright gold and now have to very carefully unpick and restitch some of the other pieces. The two suns piece is currently my favourite.

Three embroidery hoops of different sizes set with a light cream calico fabric. On each of the canvases is a variation of a theme about landscapes consisting of a simple fields and mountain design that have been divided into uneven sections to mimic different terrains, lakes and fields and then each section filled in with a different colour to mimic light, shade and depth and outlined and highlighted with a dark gold thread and moon/sun. Hello and back after a short hiatus for #lastfourwatched on #Letterboxd Friday.
The Good, The Bad and The Weird was so much fun.
Before There Was Punk, There was a Band Called Death is a must watch.
Fever to Tell felt a bit bratty but also happy 25 years to the YYY's
and AFV was comfort rewatch.

Rewatched Melancholia today and it's an oddly comforting end of the world movie but also I forgot how beautiful the cinematography is, the first 8 minute opening sequence could be a stand alone movie in its self.

Spotted whilst eating my lunch at Portobello Beach, a piece called Joppa Boat Race by Noah King, age 11. I love the reclaimed pottery pieces as the sails.
