After a short search the most critical source I found is this student project from Connecticut College. It seems to provide some detail for much of your timeline.
There is also an al jazzera article.

Hey could you share some reporting on this? Maybe a timeline of events? I don’t know enough about Ukraine politics get any of these references.

One time I ran a dungeon that I think is in this and it was rad.

Not a megadungeon at all. More of a one shot ish dungeon at a mega scale. Then there’s a huge wilderness area above. Looks really fun. Sholtis art and sensibility is great.

When I play with friends I’ve been playing a home brew based on Old DnD. Going to run a couple ADnD sessions with my students this spring. But mostly I play miniature games these days

Mythic Battles is great. It hasn’t hit the table in a la long while but really fun and challenging. And great models.

I keep saying Barrowmaze because I know it. I think all of them books in that series address a key issue with megadungeons which is getting stuck in them for too long. Flat modular structure is easy in/out for episodic play and allows a bigger campaign world to develop (in town etc)

I bought it. Like 8 years ago but I finally got Operation Completely Unfathomable by Jason Sholtis this year

Also Castle X is great. I would say similar prep to barrowmaze. Maybe a little more but still not much.

I know the feeling. Been stoked for dolmenwood for along time. My last campaign had elements of both actually.

Thinking about the factions, giving their leaders some names n stuff will definitely make Barrowmaze more fun. But you don’t need to do that to start.

Storm Kings Thunder was the high prep one. That campaigns a mess. It it fulfilled my bucket list of running a full on forgotten realms campaign. We had the poster map on the wall and the players enjoyed exploring.

Curse of Strahd is good. It the right size for a campaign setting. Just a little more stuff to do than the hero’s need to gain that xp to go back and brave castle. Lots of connection throughout. Very rewarding for our group.
