Dude, I saw Vinny Testaverde do it at 44. This is nothing.

Chuba Hubbard was asked if Rico Dowdle's big day made him feel pressure, and he looked like he saw a bad plate of poutine.

Dowdle was asked if Hubbard's return might cut into his action. "Two is better than one."

On the mutual admiration society at RB.

Chuba Hubbard celebrates Rico Dowdle, while neither worries about snap counts
The Panthers starting running back was the first to congratulate his backup for a big day on Sunday, and neither one is thinking about why having two good ones would be anything other than a plus.

Behold, a much happier (and longer) Ask The Old Guy, in which we discuss a record-tying comeback, lessons learned, issues raised, cool rookies, work ethic, and, of course, what NY Times best-selling author Daniel Pink can teach us about late-game play-calling.

Ask The Old Guy: Coming back toward center
The season took another major turn last week, which is why week-to-week referendums aren't always helpful. But at least people are in a better mood. More about the comeback, and what still needs work.

For your ride to work, may I suggest the Happy Half Hour, in which we break down the Panthers' record-tying comeback, how it came together, the cool moment with a life-lesson beforehand, and I make fun of @kassidyhill.bsky.social's fantasy football choices.

Whose idea was it to name a sneaky athletic shooter from the ACC who ends up on Michael Jordan's old team in Charlotte Kon Knueppel and not Air Eola?

Jalen Coker's "excited" to get back to practice this week, which was evident by the grin on his face.

But the second-year wideout admitted the six weeks have been "upsetting" for him, after the injury that hit just as he was about to realize a goal.

Jalen Coker
The second-year wideout will open the 21-day window to practice on Wednesday, the first step toward being activated from injured reserve after a quadriceps injury.

Jalen Coker's window to practice will open on Wednesday.

They'll throw some heavier workloads at him this week, to see how he holds up.

Too soon to know whether he can play this week.

Canales said flipping the roles of LBs Trevin Wallace and Christian Rozeboom helped both. Wallace felt more comfortable calling the defense, he said Rozeboom played "freer" (team-high nine tackles).

Best game by the LBs all season.

The Panthers' record-tying comeback win took a lot of people to pull off.

Specifically, three dudes chosen on the third day of the 2025 draft all played roles in the game-winning drive.

On the late-round rookies' late-game magic in the win over the Dolphins.

Late-round rookies make key plays late in comeback win over the Dolphins
From tight end Mitchell Evans' game-winning touchdown, to a drive-saving catch from Jimmy Horn Jr., to Trevor Etienne stepping up when needed, it was a big day for the third day of the 2025 draft.

It was a start. But it definitely felt like some 2002 Panthers action.

smothering defense, punishing run game, timely big time throws
that was vintage panthers football today man
daringantt.bsky.social
This is why it's important to be the same guy every day.

Ain't nothing wrong with that.

Run defense was a major problem a year ago for the Panthers, which led to a busy offseason.

Sunday, that group stepped up in a major way.

The 19 yards allowed on the ground was the second-fewest in franchise history.

It might have been easy to doubt that Bryce Young had this in him.

But an interaction with Derrick Brown when they trailed 17-0 underscored why his teammates believed in his ability to lead a franchise-record comeback.

For Bryce Young, Sunday's comeback was fueled by his teammates' belief
The quarterback came back from a 17-0 deficit, to create one of the biggest recoveries in franchise history on Sunday. Which they saw coming, the whole time.

By coming back from a 17-point deficit, the Panthers matched the largest comeback in franchise history.

It's now happened four times, starting with the 2003 opener against Jacksonville.

Bryce Young, asked if he was worried he might get pulled down 17-0, with a very Bryce Young answer.

"Just focused on the next play. We have all the belief in the world."

Said there was "no flinch" in the team today.

Dave Canales praised the "fight" in his team. Knows there were "sloppy" moments that have to be fixed, but loved the effort and the run game.
