#SpookySeason means shilling for #horror, and shill I shall.

The greatest horror director who many won't admit is a horror director, the late David Lynch frightened people from end to end of his filmography. I put his films in the "chiller" sub-genre: more about mood & tone than blood & guts.

Being a Bowie fan, watching VELVET GOLDMINE was like Neo seeing code, except it was glam and painted lightning.

The thing my favorite genre can do that only comedy can is social commentary, but horror can go one step further. This is a bloody, wild, and crazy snapshot of '00s Hong Kong's inflated property market.

With about 400 seats, the Shinjuku Moulin Rouge venue hosted witty satire, lyrical plays, and dazzling dance performances. It also produced stars such as Ashita Matsuko, often described as Japan's first idol.

I didn't know I wanted a #vampire movies that dealt with the frustrations of being an artist, but here it is being bloody and poignant.

Because it feels relevant as we continue to evaluate the media and our representatives’ statements, my favorite way to identify the active vs. passive voice.
A post by Rebecca Johnson:
“I finally learned how to teach my guys to ID the passive voice. If you can insert "by zombies" after the verb, you have passive voice.”

A tumblr respond from mightymur:
“The final, brilliant word on passive voice.
"She was killed [by zombies.]"<--passive
"Zombies killed [by zombies] her." <-- active”

I managed to write an article about this flick and not shoehorn a COVID allegory. My No-Prize should be a 10' tall statue of a Pfizer vaccine.

But seriously, this was fun to write.

Two-strip technicolor is the greatest tool my favorite genre forgot it had. The technique was short-lived and all movies used it, but horror was particularly suited for it. So much wasted potential...
