I know I need to do a “Hi, I’m Jen” intro post (and a more thorough one with links to stuff is coming), but…
Hi! I’m Jen! I make TV, video games, TTRPGs and actual plays, Shakespearean nerdiness, and also work in disability spaces, which means my work overlaps in MANY spaces.

Shakespeare? You mean the queer guy who wrote plays with TONS of crossdressing and defiance of gender and social norms and descriptions like, and I quote, “What, with my tongue in your tail?”

Better a witty fool than a foolish wit.

Accessibility improves life for EVERYONE
TIL the touchscreen technology in iPhones was inspired by an accessibility device for disabled ppl called FingerWorks. It was a touchpad used in place of the computer mouse.

And then Apple contracted w FingerWorks to develop iPhone’s touchscreen.

I'm doing charity fundraising for National Black Trans Advocacy Coalition. We need to support both the Black community & the Trans community and I'm putting my money where my mouth is: I set a $2000 goal. If we hit the goal? I'm cutting my hair and donating the hair too.

Imagine if the style of arguably the most famous Impressionist was due, in part, to his blindness! What would we DO with a whole new style of painting?!?

Okay here’s my “contribution” to Super Bowl discourse: on Instagram, the Pacific Northwest Ballet has challenged the Boston Ballet. You must watch their video because if I tried to describe it you wouldn’t believe me…

I’ve spoken to so many non-male friends recently who have been Going Through It because of *gestures at everything.* I’m going to try and keep sharing support resources.

Today, here’s a thread of orgs specifically for and by Black women.

Brother if reading the Epstein files and seeing the world’s richest white men OPENLY PLAN how to kill off the poor and non-white of the world doesn’t convince you to:

- get vaccinated
- wear a mask
- take care of your fellow man and neighbor
- look out for children

You’re lost.

Every instance of "AI democratizes the arts, you're classist and ableist and a gatekeeper for trying to stop it" is a slap in the face to the literally centuries of poor, disabled people making art on the margins and a crass lie in service of a machine that strips down and regurgitates dreams

So, first of all, of course it was Trump.

But even if they were telling the truth, "We give staffers who post videos of the Obamas as apes access to the agenda-setting, decree-sending, market-moving account of the president of the United States" is not the exculpatory statement they think it is.

To recap the White House's official position, the racist video was posted erroneously by a staffer and they took it down, but even if it was posted on purpose, the outrage would have been fake because the post was fine and inspired by the Lion King

I am not going to repost the vile and racist image that Trump posted last night of President & First Lady Obama because it is beyond disgusting. Trump is a vile racist as is every Republican that continues to support him. I don’t want to hear mumbling from Mike Johnson or stoic silence from Thune.

This.

When plenty of folks in power positions keep publicly saying games are the future of the film industry…the WGA needs to be ALL OVER IT.

Games writing is art involving scripting the equivalent of several-seasons-of-TV’s-worth of dialogue for performers.
The above post kinda popped off so I'm not sure I can delete it now BUT... Look, I'm never the kind to us-vs-them my fellow writers. If you're a WGA member reading this, I urge you to talk to your leadership about this - it's a solidarity issue. Game writers deserve a permanent seat at the table.

Yet another Really Good Thread, particularly the section about who becomes company leadership.
Here is a thing:

There were several years when I was one of VERY few journalists seriously covering harassment and abuse issues in comics (and by extension sometimes video games). During that time, I became the Person People Told Things To.

I may delete this because it’s a bit spicy but it shouldn’t be lost on us that games being turned into TV is essentially harvesting the stories written by those who don’t have union representation or healthcare with WGA by those that do. Our stories are good enough for TV but the writers aren’t?

Well, this is an interesting bit of news at the nexus of my various industries.
A Baldur's Gate TV show is the next video game adaptation from HBO, with The Last of Us' Craig Mazin at the helm again.

The show will continue on from the story and characters in Baldur's Gate 3. Larian is not involved.

SUCH a good, important thread.
Why don't they say anything?

Well, because when it happens to YOU, if you say something, that's frequently the ballgame. You get driven out of your community; you get to see what the people you thought loved you look like with the masks off. And way, way too many of them are monsters.

“But we lost all those girls.”

I think about this a lot—but unsurprisingly, Seanan puts the perfect words around it.

::cries in comics… and games… and movies… and books… and apparently everywhere else, also::
"We would have lost so much if we'd driven him away" is the justification.

But we lost all those girls. We lost the women they would have become. We lost the work they would have done. Why was his future work so much more valuable than theirs?
