I know I need to do a “Hi, I’m Jen” intro post (and a more thorough one with links to stuff is coming), but…
Hi! I’m Jen! I make TV, video games, TTRPGs and actual plays, Shakespearean nerdiness, and also work in disability spaces, which means my work overlaps in MANY spaces.

Mascot rave actually seems like an incredibly effective tactic. There's absolutely no way to spin that the dancing unicorn was threatening.

Streets are still closed off in front of the Portland ICE facility at 8:30pm. Protesters have gathered on a side street. Dance party in progress.

I absolutely believe it. It’s WEIRD for a teen drama, but is such an interesting unit of TV on its own.

But also, it totally sets the tone for the later stuff when they go full-blown experimental art film in the last two seasons.

I can’t believe it took me a full week to switch over to my scary season photo. I am deeply ashamed. But she’s back, and all is right with the world (of my profile picture).

(Which I actually kind of like because I’m a weirdo who likes long awkward pauses in my movies.)

Like how the Felicity pilot is an artsy indie film with LOTS of silence and sparse music, save for songs as scene transitions.

Oregon National Guard Adjutant General, General Gronewold says if they are federalized, that he will advise the Title 10 commander to utilize National Guard Troops to PROTECT protesters at ICE facilities. This is the right answer.

I love you, Lauren. You are brilliant. This is a perfect metaphor.

Ooh, that’s a good distillation.

(I’m tired and loopy and trying to express explanations that are synesthetic in my brain, so if this doesn’t make sense, I’m sorry.)

But mechanics should always have a purpose, make sense with the internal logic of the world, and matter, shaping the story both from the inside and the outside, almost like clay on a pottery wheel.

(Why does this whole thread read dirty? It’s not, I swear. 😂)

To me, the first set, or mechanics with a similar idea, are the most refined—if they can help a GM/group structure a story, drive it forward, create points of conflict, acceleration, and deceleration, etc., that’s the best.

I also think mechanics that support story can mean they:
-Don’t obstruct the flow of action
-Create opportunities/obstacles, not roadblocks
-Fit the logic of whatever they are driving (a more powerful ability probably uses bigger numbers)
-Create curiosity

I think it’s a few things. Ten Candles (obviously) and Dread are good examples of one set of ideas:
-The game mechanics set atmosphere, tone, and mood.
-They create pacing that escalates tension to a climactic ending.
-They distribute narrative rights as a resource, also creating scarcity.

Hi, I'm a trans Californian who reported on the CA bills. This headline is misleading at best. You haven't noted that he has until the 12th to sign the other bills, leaving that out is irresponsible and fearmongers.

People can and should still pressure him on those bills.

He hasn't signed the other bills yet, but he still has days to do so
This headline is misleading for not mentioning that.

The gender education veto is bad, but far from the most important trans rights bill on his desk.

There's still time to contact Newsom for the rest!

Must read report from Mo on what's happening in Chicago, which is unlawful, inhumane and against everything American is supposed to stand for.

🔥 As you may have seen, in recent days, I've been going to the Broadview ICE facility near where I live. For @vanityfair.com I wrote about those protests & the hell that the Chicago area is being put through thanks to ICE/DHS. I hope you'll read this & share it. www.vanityfair.com/news/story/c...
Postcard From Chicago: There’s an ICE Facility in My Backyard
Chicago was not a war zone when Trump’s Operation Midway Blitz began. DHS and ICE have made it one.

Oh, and The Double Tax by Anna Gifty just came out. It’s on my list.

Haymarket Books is my go-to for a lot of my reading list on all of these topics—they often do sale bundles on a theme, too.

Black Disability Politics by Dr. Sami Schalk is SPECTACULAR.

I wish I had that option, but something like 60% of my work is gigs under $500. (Thanks, I hate it, and I’m looking for better work, if you know of anything.) So the invoices are many and far too often.

Because it feels relevant as we continue to evaluate the media and our representatives’ statements, my favorite way to identify the active vs. passive voice.
A post by Rebecca Johnson:
“I finally learned how to teach my guys to ID the passive voice. If you can insert "by zombies" after the verb, you have passive voice.”

A tumblr respond from mightymur:
“The final, brilliant word on passive voice.
"She was killed [by zombies.]"<--passive
"Zombies killed [by zombies] her." <-- active”

Rahaeli is a good egg. Also did EPIC coverage of Popeapalooza ‘25.

Surgeons general appointed by every president since George H.W. Bush co-authored this.

That’s a pretty big deal.

This. For me it’s acting. Every time I get to come back to it, it feels like breathing again after being deep underwater.

The grief of knowing I may never do the thing I love most, the craft to which I dedicated most of my life, again, sits just inside my sternum, corset-tight, all of the time.

It's still the only thing I ever want to do as my career and I'll come back in a heartbeat if the industry ever gets in order. I still grieve every day I'm not working.

Truly. He did the same thing on a unanimously approved bill requiring insurance to cover further testing for breast cancer if required. (Screening mammography was covered, diagnostic was not, and costs hundreds+.)

I can’t recall if he vetoed it or tabled it, but my GODS, what a villain move.
