And it is going to require the support of the 10-15% of the GOP that is still pro-democracy. They are going to have to decide to caucus/vote with Democrats long enough to pass these institutional reforms. There is no other way. And Democrats can't fix the Lisa Murkowski problem on their own.
Yes, the caving was shameful. But again, there are only two solutions to all of this, & both require 15-20 Congressional Republicans to decide they care about the Republic more than power & party. No, it's not going to happen. That doesn't make it less true. These folks get free passes everyday.

American liberal democracy cannot rest on the idea that Democrats must win in perpetuity. Either the GOP must regain a commitment to shared democratic values or else the party must be permanently crippled to the point where it's no longer a viable political force.
