"There is no sun without shadow, and it is essential to know the night."
- Albert Camus, The Myth of Sissyphus
No one to gift, not expecting any. Have photos of a squatting tabby carving out space. Can anyone tell me why this one is runty?

The rarely spotted furnace duct cat. They like to control the high grounds. Actually, Ollie finding a place to hide on his first incursion to the basement.

This butterball of a stray recently befriended the house when they were roofing the house. I had seen her before that but she stayed safe, coming to eat only when the food was left alone. Now she wants breakfast and dinner plates, has proven to be a gentle, friendly cat.

I have far more large raccoons running around here than I realize. I'm talking the high 30 pounder ringtails.

Here's a raccoon video I found from early Sunday morning, in the backyard. These guys have some serious girth.

Only need to post one video of the raccoon spat last night. This is best angle, view. There is sound.

You may remember this photo from a few years ago. Two of the 12 cousins that make that family, Jo and Gene. Finally found out their names. They moved to CA in the '50s. A plane accident in early '60s prevented them from making it back for a reunion. In. The '70s there was an auto-gyro accident

Got all of them again last week.

Finally had the headstone on my parents' grave leveled. No longer have to look at an incline when I visit.

Maybe they need something with ironic honesty.
Good morning Tony!

Two...4...6...8
Our hands crepitate
To ensure you're quackers
For our guys, Go Ducks

For the first time I was hearing sounds that included crepitating noise that I would identify. They came waddling in from the shadows while I fed cats.

She still manages a sense of wonder for food.

I like these mornings when Kitty fights the other cats, mewing "my porch, my space, my food, my place...." There's nothing like watching aerial combat over a platter of pâte in the morning.

My cacography is buried in journals and other chapbooks.

Poetry from Langston Hughes:

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a btoken-winged bird
That cannot fly

Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow

Not the act of another plains tornado but part of the process to replace a hail-damaged roof with a new one.

The Roofing Sprite is one busy, messy being. I should ask if he's daemon....
September 26, 2025 at 3:34 PM
The Roofing Sprite is here.
September 26, 2025 at 1:46 PM
Well, you're not supposed to see the roofing happen because they supposedly bring in spirits. It's really one little mother cat who knows how to get shit done.
September 26, 2025 at 1:44 PM
Yes. Ollie cat stepped into the house today to look around. Then back out. I have a feeling he'll be back. He's such a pushy and ornery cat. I like him.

Cat-in-a-Tub insistent she doesn't need to use her tongue to self-clean. What about turning on the water, Clancy?

Jaunty Friday with a picnic kit. Only one more in the month.
August 22, 2025 at 1:04 PM
Found out this thing is not a caterpillar. He's called an Army Ant in some circles, a military ant in others. He's considered a garden pest who will destroy your grass, flora, and fauna given the opportunity. The ones in my yard are gone now.
August 21, 2025 at 1:25 PM
No cheating, post the last pic of your pets. Clancy, Ginger Kitty. Pics taken on same day.
August 18, 2025 at 10:15 PM
Same things as everyday, the cats need to be fed. Kitty on the front porch, Ginger in back (here, on a rock that sometimes doubles as a feeding place, with Clancy going outside to join them. So far cooler, that should end by 1 when the heat reasserts itself.
