I've tried to explain how broken all this stuff is to people and they don't get it. Your editor doesn't know what a paragraph is or a function is. It can only guess by trying to parse the document.

So yeah my experience being able to edit structured documents is wonderful.

Your essay reminds me of Wordstar 6 (I think 6 not 5).

it thought of the document as blocks of text with formatting applied. I switches to word perfect for a while and it was complete opposite. Formatting tags mixed in with test. Word I think just tries to hide it's broken document model from you.
