The OB pier in San Diego with surf high enough to break into the bottom of the pier. There was one surfer out there but I never saw them catch anything. Most of the time they were trying to make their way out and the rest of the time they were looking for a decent wave. I was out there long enough to have my poke bowl and a spam musubi for lunch

My train reading this time around is some non-fiction by @katz.theracket.news. It starts off with a plan by oligarchs to recruit a popular general by offering to pay off his mortgage and have him lead a militia to storm the capital so they could get the dollar back on the gold standard
The book Gangsters of Capitalism by Jonathan Katz. Other weird coincidences in the prologue is a discussion on how authoritarians consolidate power by keeping troops directly on their payroll, the planners being fans of Hitler and an attempted insurrection in France by way of a far-right riot on February 6th.

Two books, The Martian Contingency by Mary Robinette Kowal and The Shattering Peace by John Scalzi opened to their title pages. Both are signed by their respective authors. I haven’t started The Shattering Peace yet but I got it because I’m burning through The Martian Contingency so fast that I don’t think it’ll last the week
