I mean, it's a silly detail, but to me it shows how we try to live a decent life and share a common cultural space with Europeans. And yet this is what happens... Beautiful lives are taken away, while those responsible for these crimes remain free.

And you know what? Yesterday I shared the story about the Bristol Hotel in Odesa that was damaged by Russian missiles. Now I look at Anastasiia's photos and see a book by Ian Haydn Smith, who we invited to the Odesa International Film Festival to run a workshop for film critics. ➡️

Because they, these things, may not exist tomorrow. And there may not be a Tomorrow either.’ ➡️

In summer 2022, amid the war, she wrote: ‘This summer is about chill out under the linden trees, interesting books, good music, linen on my body and all those little joys that I appreciate even more than usual. Because not everyone has the opportunity to enjoy these things now. ➡️

And these photos show what the culture-loving Russians have done to the hotel, an architectural landmark. I hate what Russia is doing to our lives and to everything that is dear to us.

This is a very special memory for me. During the reception we went outside, with glasses of wine and I was telling Aidan about the Ukrainian language when a cyclist passed us. I felt my handbag on my shoulder being snatched away, but a second later Aidan grabbed it and saved me from the thief.
