@dec.ny.gov @governor.ny.gov Although killing contests were banned in 2023 (for which we are very appreciative), indiscriminate killing in NY is still alive an well.

This is what happens when you appoint trappers to state legislatures. They only know one way to manage wildlife - to kill.

Since there isn't a single study in any reputable publication that justifies killing wolves, I wonder if this is all for optics.

And what is there to celebrate?? You shot a powerless animal with a sophisticated rifle. Stunning ignorance.

Also, where are these hunts taking place. Public land?

@governor.ny.gov There is a Facebook group that takes a tremendous amount of joy in killing coyotes. These are not New York values.

What can we do to raise awareness. Whom do we talk to?

I cannot believe people take joy in killing defenseless animals like this.

Signed. This was so sad. She didn't fear the hunter, because she was accustomed to non-violent humans. The hunter knew she was a protected park wolf, but shot her anyway. This is not hunting. This is slaughter. Such morally bankrupt people.

Utterly disgusting. Two lawmakers in WY tried to push provision that banned wolf whacking earlier this year, but their efforts failed. We have to keep the pressure up.

Another Yellowstone wolf deliberately targeted and killed by a Montana hunter just outside park boundaries: cowboystatedaily.com/2025/09/23/f...

Just cruel and sad. Wolves have to be re-listed in the Northern Rockies. These states are simply not capable of managing their wildlife.

I have been calling congress members on this. We really need to scale up our opposition to wolf hunts. Wolf hunts are not only obscenely cruel, there is no scientific backing for them. Livestock losses due to wolf depredation are minimal, and non-lethal deterrents are very effective.

Today marks the start of Montana’s general wolf hunt—and this year will be catastrophic.

The state set a quota of 558 wolves, gutted regional safeguards & made it easier to wipe out entire packs.

This isn’t management—it’s eradication.

Please call your reps! The last time wolves were delisted (in 2021), Wisconsin hunters killed 218 wolves in less than 72 hours.

Congress is considering bills that could strip protections from gray wolves in 44 states. Losing these safeguards would leave wolves vulnerable to hunting and persecution.

They approved a quota of 458 wolves to be killed via trophy hunting and trapping during the 2025–2026 season — plus an additional 100 wolves authorized for “controlled removals” by govt agencies. That’s 558 wolves in total, nearly half the state’s entire population of about 1,100 animals.

Wolf watching tourism generates a lot of money for local economies in the Greater Yellowstone area ($82million, in fact). Maybe we should rethink where we spend tourism $$. They need to realize there are financial consequences for anti-wolf policies.
