After nearly 100 hours of gameplay, I have beaten Clair Obscur.

The final boss would have been more challenging—and satisfying—if the game scaled its strength and HP with the party's average level. Sephiroth in the OG Final Fantasy VII did this, but I can't think of other games that do it too.

I finally cracked the code to make Maelle immensely powerful (with help from Lune and Sciel), so now I've spent the entire afternoon slaughtering one super boss after another.

As I took the train home to leave MAGFest 2026, I had the fortune to play and finish Many Nights a Whisper on my laptop, and I encourage anyone interested in thoughtful narrative-driven games to check this short gem out--it only took me about 100 minutes to complete.

If there was one disappointment at MAGfest, it was having The Protomen perform three days in a row. My hotel roommates and I agreed that they were unimpressive. I left early after hearing a handful of their songs and found each of them melodramatic and boring.

Having successfully concluded MAGFest 2026, I can confirm that learning abouthow someone mistakenly thought the folks wearing the baguette costumes from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 were security is one of my top three moments for this weekend.
