@jonobie I have (and like!) a vertical mouse, too! I also like using a mousepad with a wrist rest so I'm not holding my entire arm up the whole time.

[Heated Rivalry spoilers and possibly unpopular opinion]

@jvschrag I also liked Scott and Kip's story much better. I liked having all the emotions, richness, complexity, and vibrancy there for us to see and share in. Whereas Shane and Ilya locked it all away and we only got to see glimpses […]

@archer I grew up in the NE USA calling them rubber boots. Boring, I know. Alaskans call them breakup boots! It's referencing spring thaw when the winter-long ice is finally breaking up and everything is a slushy, wet mess for a while.

[author's note: Yes, this is "write what you know." I'm currently isolating in one room with covid, far away from home. Fortunately I'm in much better physical and mental state than my narrator here, so please don't be concerned. And I have my husband just on the other side of the door taking […]

As far as I've been able to tell, this one room was pretty thoroughly ripped free of the rest of the ship. It's a miracle it's still airtight. No other debris I can see outside, though my field of view is limited.

Yep, my inhabitable universe has shrunk down to these four bulkheads and the […]

I've felt horribly weak and dizzy, and basic scans suggest I'm somewhat temporally decoherent and still getting back in phase with myself. But without a proper medunit I can't even make a precise diagonsis, let alone any attempt at treatment.

Unlike me, the plants seem to be thriving on the […]

@Unixbigot But the margins of these toots are too small to contain the full proof.

@jvschrag Similarly, I've muted a few people who are great but verrry prolific and often overwhelmed my feed. So I'll go read their toots every now and again instead of getting the constant stream of it. (I should probably figure out lists or other features to make that easier?) And yes, if they […]

@jonobie Or is it an extract of the aforementioned underworld creature, now in a population crash due to overharvesting?
December 3, 2025 at 10:58 PM
@jonobie You may have already seen all the info in here, but if it's helpful, a public-health source I trust just did a newsletter article summarizing the research on HRT, especially what's known about the risks. Still no good info about migraines, alas […]

In recent decades, the Lake Washington watershed also transitioned from building outwards to building upwards. Instead of clearing forest for new development, we mostly replaced older, lower-density development with higher-density development. We fit 34% more people into the watershed while […]

We don't yet know which specific environmental protections helped Lake Washington. There's been a whole host of regulaions and voluntary state, county, and city projects, community-group efforts, and many small changes from the 1.4 million people in the watershed, too. We've massively reduced […]
