Eternal Vigilance is the Price of Liberty
@dave7e.bsky.social
Just an embarrassed to the core US Citizen but proud American. We CAN make it better, starting with the impeachment and removal of Krasnov. WE failed in our fundamental duty as citizens of a Democracy - "Eternal Vigilance is the Price of Liberty"
Nobody that I know of is advocating for that.

we can and must amend the constitution to ensure our Democracy functions by modernizing it and relevant laws. People wrote it, people can change it any time, and must if we are to survive as a Democracy for Liberty.

good reason to modernize it
December 15, 2025 at 5:15 AM
no, they are public services. Much different influence, and they are not individuals. Just because they have resources to do so, they should not be allowed to alter public perceptions to their own end imo. And yes, I do not support the view that they are "people"

Yes, - but my statement was "4) Re-establish a modern version of the fairness doctrine to ensure that all candidates and ballot measures are afforded equivalence in print or air time." I thought the equal time act was just a subset of that. Regardless, I think we need a modern version of both then.

It goes further - Defamation, or false statements that damage a reputation. Fraud and false advertising.
Incitement to imminent lawless action.
Perjury, or false statements made under oath.
All of which I agree, but if need be, we need to modernize the scope in view of PAC Propaganda Machines

Exactly - lying that causes harm is NOT protected speech. This isn't rocket science, it's common sense that you cannot possibly have a democracy when billions are spent on dispersing false information to rig the system.
December 15, 2025 at 5:01 AM
why would you say that? Free speech was added to the Constitution to enable people to discuss matters important for the democratic process. It's essential to have free speech FOR ALL in a Democracy. Lying does not convey useful information for debate, understanding or compromise.

laws need to change with the times
December 13, 2025 at 8:15 PM
constitution was written centuries ago - times have changed and the constitution has to change.

Pretty much sums up why I noted "modern version" - there are many new challenges we face today that were not present then. There never was and equal time act, but an equivalence mandate I believe.

9) Restrict the power of political parties to return a semblance of Democracy to representational bodies including the US House and Senate, and State Assemblies and Senates. Parties could still develop their choices for candidates, but would not "own' them.

8) Establish a non-partisan national agency (VPA) which will ensure that all Americans are afforded equivalent opportunities to vote, and that their vote will have equivalence in electoral power. The VPA will also oversee 50 non-partisan agencies charged with establishing voting districts.

7) Remove any and all immunities currently granted to election officials. Provide legal representation for any and all charges incurred from performing official duties, and none for any other charges.

6) Establish an enforcement agency that is charged with policing ethics violations such as taking bribes or "gifts" or using the public trust for personal gain. Increase the penalties for ethics violations.

4) Re-establish a modern version of the fairness doctrine to ensure that all candidates and ballot measures are afforded equivalence in print or air time.

5) Establish term limits for all elected officials, and for the Justices of the Supreme Court.

3) Change campaign law so candidates may not accept "donations" from anyone or any organization more than the equivalent of 1 hour of the current national minimum wage. Use funding from the media tax to fund the campaigns of all candidates and ballot measures at levels consistent

1) Establish the equivalent of the EPA but instead of targeting the environment, use it to regulate the veracity of news sources (perhaps the IPA - Information Protection Agency).

2) Tax all media companies and use the new resource for funding the IPA and public, independent news sources.
