A pair of sleeping Greater Flamingos at #ElHondo.
It didn't quite work out the way I had it in my mind but the reflection was fun anyway. #birds

For #WaderWednesday another Collared Pratincole as it sweeps through the wetlands, gulping down bugs. They must have left us on migration, as I haven't heard or seen them for a week.

A bird that is brown on its back and top of the wings, flies above the water in a wetland. The background is green reeds out of focus. It has a thin black collar that runs from eye to eye, below the chin, thus the name. The base of its short bill is red and its belly is white (unseen). We are looking at the bird from the side and above it.

A white bodied bird is flying towards the viewer in the blue sky. Its wings are almost straight up and down as it turns and the red bill is wide open as it screams. The top of its head is black and this covers the black eyes as well.

A Glossy Ibis, a Stilt and a Plover walk in a lake...

Three birds are in silhouette. At the top looking right is a Glossy Ibis, in the middle looking left is a Black-winged Stilt walking and in the lower third is a Plover, standing in the shallow water doing nothing, as Plovers do. The water has a light blue early morning colour, showing faint white clouds in reflection.

A large brown bodied bird, wings up, as it flies to work on a Monday. Its neck and head have white speckles among the brown and its long curved bill shows it to be a Glossy Ibis or Gonzo. Under the open facing wing, shimmers of green iridescence show. The dark legs trail behind with the long toes folded up.

Some Lantana for #SundayYellow and #PhotographyBreak.
This plant, although with beautiful flowers, is very hard to get rid of in the garden, with its long-growing thorny shoots, which take over.
Many thanks to the Sparrows who poop them into place! 😂

I don't have anything nearly as exciting but here's a wet juvenile Slender-billed Gull, flying offshore along the Costa Blanca. #birds
An all white sea bird, wings wide open, flies in the blue Spanish sky. The narrow longish bill is starting to turn red as it matures. The chest feathers are wet, showing it has been feeding in the sea water.

A side view of a juvenile flamingo, flying in the Spanish blue sky. The legs are missing out of shot on the left side. It has yet to gain adult plumage and shows a brownish long stretched out neck, a white bill, still black tipped and the start of a pinkish colour under its wings, which are on the upward stroke. It already has black feathers to the back half of each wing. The eye is still black and will develop into a yellow as it grows.

Mud, glorious mud!
Flamingos sifting through the slush for algae. This is a perfect supermarket for waders, all the good stuff is in there!

Two gulls perched on an aluminium platform. One is leaving and has leapt off the platform with a wicked look in on eye, narrowed as if focussed on something. Its wings are half up, bent in the stroke and the yellow legs also bent back but not folded as yet. The gull behind it, got a fright as the other one jumped off and its wings are half open in fright. They are white all over with grey wings and backs. The bills are the standard yellow with a red dot near the end, on the lower half.

These juvenile Black-winged Stilts have this gorgeous brown colouring before they go all black. #birds

Heat haze has been a real killer for sharp images this summer. Here is a typical example; cropped 50% to show it better (or should that be worse?). It looks like high ISO but the image is actually ISO 320.
Still, it is always great to see Little Terns, fuzzy or not.

The fire in León has completely destroyed the village of Palacios de Jamuz (90 inhabitants).
The image taken by a UME fireman is terrifying. It seems like the end of days.
Fortunately, everyone was evacuated before the flames reached them.
A village street where all the houses are burning due to wild fires. The flames are seen through every window and door. Taken at night.
