Did you get a final tally?

Thieves probably thought it was copper but discovered it was Rain Bird or similar plastic product after they pulled it up. Hopefully the city does repairs quickly and maybe use black tubing instead. www.homedepot.ca/product/rain...

This appears to go against have signs anywhere near a voting place on election day, including on the road. Here are excerpts from Hamilton's BY-LAW NO. 22-031.

Love the reminder to voters that Ward 14 is not Ward 8.

Residents in the area were concerned about speeding and cut-through traffic from drivers trying to avoid Dundurn on their way to King Street West.

And, despite what she says, as a resident of Ward 14, she cannot vote in Ward 8. "an elector is entitled to vote only in the ward where he or she resides, even if the elector resides in one ward and is the owner or tenant of land in a different ward..." Municipal Elections Act

A person is not eligible to vote in a by-election for an office if the person could not vote for that office if a regular election was held on the day of the by-election.

For greater certainty, if a municipality is divided into wards, an elector is entitled to vote only in the ward where he or she resides, even if the elector resides in one ward and is the owner or tenant of land in a different ward or is the spouse of an owner or tenant of land in a different ward.

@joeycoleman.ca, Sonia Brown admits in a Facebook post that she does not live in Ward 8 but incorrectly states that she is eligible to vote in the byelection. This is not true according to the Municipal Election Act.

Sadly, First Place went into receivership in 2006 when it was operated by First Pilgrim Church. Hamilton City Housing eventually bought the property.

What's the campaign spending limit for this by-election?
September 15, 2025 at 4:39 PM
Candidates who are residents of Hamilton, but do not live in Ward 8, may need to be reminded that they cannot vote in this by-election, even if they own or lease property in Ward 8. Same applies to non-resident candidates who don't own or lease property in Ward 8. They can't vote either.

Why are they using a photo of Beachway Park when it's not one of the two beaches with poor water quality?

One withdrawal today - Scott Cruickshank.

At this rate, we may need a write-in ballot.

It should be noted that Mrs. and Mrs. G. W. Robinson (of department store fame) donated $10k to build the Lieut. George Victor Memorial Wing that opened in 1920, in honour of their son who died of the Spanish Flu 1918.

Prior to moving to Duke and Caroline, the group operated the "Female Home" for 5 years at 81 Maria St. (now Forest Ave.).

Do you know what group this was?

Resident of Ward 3 but used Ward 8 business address as qualifying address? Being a resident of Hamilton would have already qualified them to run as a candidate in any Ward. However, as a Hamilton resident living outside of Ward 8, they would not be eligible to vote in the by-election.

The City of Hamilton's web site has the Mountain Ride leaving Buchanan Park. Is that now changed to Mountain Drive Park (which is closed right now)? www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbo...

Hopefully, we'll get a better turnout than the 473 voters who cast ballots in the recent Ward 4 school trustee by-election.
