Volunteer Park cafe isn’t exactly a local store either.

I think the closest I’ve seen is Lucifer with Lucifer talking to his therapist about how much it pisses him off that humans blame evil for what they do of their own accord.
daveon.bsky.social
I think these can both be true though.

I know it’s Facebook but the comments I am seeing from people reveling in the pain being inflicted is crazy.

Lots of things turn out to be a lie like checks and balances.

Surely the review is some magical bit of satire? Surely. Please?

I think it has to be leaning in to corruption. Nobody likes corruption and it’s easy to look at something and say it stinks.

Thing 4: Miller is both cleverer and dumber than we give him credit for. He does think he knows how to get what he wants. He just doesn't really realize that most of it won't actually work in the real world where other humans have to actually go along with it. See 1,2 and 3.

Thing 3: the fact is a LOT of the administration are reality TV pundits who like being on reality TV pontificating about how they'd like the world to be if only they were in charge. Understand that even though they are actually in charge now they actually have no idea how to do any of the things.

Thing 2: Trump learned early not to put his name to a single f'king thing ever. Nothing written down that come back on him ever. That's old behavior and deeply engrained and those things - they last well into old age. Part of him isn't prepared to give any real orders that are binding...

Thing 1: It is clearly getting hard to keep POTUS on task for anything. It's obvious from the TV appearances he's not being allowed out much and when he is it is getting real weird. That said, he is not so far gone that the habits of a long life are not engrained, which is thing 2...

The more I think about it, the more I conclude there probably was a nefarious plan for the assembly of the top brass - or at least some glorious spectacle of fealty planned for them by Miller.

I suspect it floundered and we were left with the weirdness we got because of a few things:

I think this ends badly for this motely crew, I just want people to realize it is going to be a slog but they're digging and digging and I don't think even they realize how deep the hole it getting.

Especially when the government tried to undo stuff around the food pyramid and hit the 'don't tell us what to eat you Nanny Statist loons' wall....
daveon.bsky.social
It is an extension of a libertarian fail mode I've seen:

Proposition 1: Government action never works
Proposition 2: The government forced the food pyramid on us all really effectively and it was bad

Both of those cannot possibly be true.

FB makes it hard to be sure because a lot of the 'people' there are not, in fact, 'people' - but it is clear there are a lot for whom 'people should comply and not protest' AND 'the Jan 6 protesters were peaceful and murdered' are both true propositions.

No? Really? You don't say?

Tina Smith says Democrats are digging in: “If anything, we’re feeling more strong.”

“I think we've tapped into something that's really important to Americans.”

I guess part of this is they clearly are bored stupid by the mundane stuff of 'governing' - which makes sense they don't think it's a thing. It's the core problem with Project 2025 - while you might not believe in government, it doesn't make it vanish.
daveon.bsky.social
Where it has 'worked' is where things improved (usually by accident or were improving before the fascists took over) and they can take credit. I don't think we've had a situation where the fascists took over and decided to make things worse economically and then do more fash things.

There will be some legacy effects caused by having such a huge military but nobody is going to rely on the Pax Americana anymore for sure.

Arguably that might not be a bad thing but it's loss will be noticeable.

From your lips etc...

Cascading farm failures and food supply issues is going to be interesting. The narrative in MAGAland is that the rural areas are self sufficient without cities might take a bit of a knock.

The unemployment situation is going to be harder to hide I think.

The trouble with actually bad economic conditions is it doesn’t need a press firehouse to sell. People notice organically. Selling how ‘bad’ things were in 2023 took real work. It will ve obvious in 2026.
