It was comforting to have a roll with us but we were relieved that we didn’t have any “off road meetings”

On Amtrak heading north and reflecting on the trip: beautiful weather, no major mechanical or physical problems and the opportunity to connect with family!

We cross crossed lower manhattan mostly on green painted bike lanes! We got some NYC bagels the made a Bee Line to the train station where we were able to get on an earlier train with bikes!

Went all the way down the west side of manhattan and witnessed a city dedicated to public space. Wide bike and ped paths, parks under elevated highways and public spaces in old piers. We couldn’t capture much bc we were meeting Sue at 11:30 in battery park. Below is the path under west side drive

Joined back up with the Empire State trail, did some road biking south of van Cortland park and soon we were back on the bank of the Hudson. Had to stop for a picture of the GWB
October 5, 2025 at 7:11 PM
Got on the road just after 8am. Instead of going back north and west to pick up the Empire State trail, we jumped in the Bronx River Parkway path close by and headed south- interesting, beautiful and clean. Lots of twists and turns which kept our speed down

We finished the day yest at 77 miles. Stayed with Ann and Billy who fed and watered us. Their third floor shower more closely resembles a power washer than a residential faucet. I slept well (might have had something to do with the 2 Benadryls, 3 ibuprofens and 2 Tylenols).

Poughkipsie is the home of Vassar College but with 75 miles ahead of us AND the fact that the complementsry breakfast didn’t start till 7am (😆)we don’t have the time to bike through the campus (even though it is just south of our location)

We ended today after 59.9 miles of cycling. We pulled off the trail at Overrocker road (almost missed it) to get to our Quality Inn
