Came back from Japan with a suitcase full of kanji training apps. Currently using the top right premium app as it has IMO the best UX for teaching to write if you didn’t learn in school but curious if anyone here has a favorite DS app for practicing kanji #japanese #kanji #languagelearning

Can’t believe TGS is nearly over. Had another amazing day of showing Milano and Micro Mages and networking with other indies. Then had an amazing team ramen dinner followed by sick deals at the local book off. Got this kanji game for less than 1/3 what it goes for on eBay.

When I first started in gaming, I was so jealous that my bosses at Namco had business cards in both English and Japanese. Now I have achieved this and am presenting my work at Tokyo Game Show. I feel as though after 20 years finally I’m a real game developer.

Today was so fun! I met my italki sensei in person after more than a year of zoom classes and went for a hike with her and her husband in Arima Onsen. Then I went back to Tokyo and ate some amazing cold crab ramen and also found two kanji games I was looking for at the Akiba Book Off.

Couple fun finds from the Osaka area shops today. I’m very pumped about this Club Nintendo DK stylus since I’ve been mostly using the 3DS to practice kanji lately and it feels like holding a regular pen

Greetings from Koshien Stadium, the oldest professional baseball stadium in Japan. I’ve now been to games at three different Japanese stadiums, and this one definitely had the best fans and atmosphere. The stadium has no upper deck so everyone is crammed in like sardines in one huge ring.

It’s a beautiful day in Kyoto! I spent the morning walking around Uji drinking iced tea and buying some souvenirs, then took another visit to the incredible Nintendo Museum. It was so much better the second time! Now I’m back relaxing at Marufukuro before dinner time.

Wrapping up the evening enjoying a drink and relaxing in the Marufukuro library amid various books and Nintendo artifacts. If you ever find yourself in Kyoto, this hotel is one thing that is worth splurging on if you are a fan of Nintendo.

First dinner of the trip was beef offal omakase. This chef was so nice and the food was unbelievable. I love seeing what people can do with cuts that most chefs would never touch.

Also walked past this cute little park with a tribute to Japan’s first service dog

I was actually planning to wait until lunch to get ramen, but after getting coffee I was walking through Tsukiji and couldn’t resist this delicious looking seafood ramen shop. I got the mazesoba with sauce made from their special Hiroshima oyster soup. Now I’m off to Kyoto for a couple days!

Japan day 3: A business partner took me to his favorite shoyu ramen shop that he’s been eating at for 20 years, and for dinner we ate various grilled meats. We got beef rump, pork tenderloin, and the best slice of Studio-Ghibli-bacon I’ve ever seen in my life.

Japan food day 2: I ate some amazing katsu don for lunch and had some really outstanding shio ramen with soup made from red snapper. The flavor of the fish made the broth taste really unique and also the noodles were thin but had an incredibly satisfying bite to them.

Way back in summer of 2006 when I was working as a QA tester, I used to listen to Asian Kung Fu Generation every day in my car while driving home from El Segundo on the 105 freeway. I discovered them by playing imported Japanese music games. Nearly 20 years later I finally got to see them live!
