It’s amazing how many senior Reform creeps Tice, Farage never met Nathan Gill the Russian stooge..

But then I guess they were told by Moscow to deny it because let’s face it, lying is like breathing for them.. no effort at all 🤷🏼‍♂️

A paean to privatised public transport.

Today I had to go from Stockport to Salisbury. So I bought a ticket

Stockport > Bristol > Salisbury

The drive to Stockport should have taken 35 minutes. Satnav said it would take 2 hours, and I'd miss my train.

So I went to Macclesfield, where I found...

Utterly beholden to lobbyists, staggeringly ignorant and dismissive of the natural world: Rachel Reeves might not look or sound like Donald Trump, but she is behaving very much like him. This government is even more of an ecological hazard than the Tories were.

A photo taken at a grocery store shows two little girls standing side-by-side, with the caption, "At the grocery store. My daughter yelled at me: "Look. Dad, I have a twin." And there we understood that the world would be better if we saw it as a child sees it." The girl on the left has dark skin and hair and is wearing a pink and white dress and gold shoes. The girl on the right has fair skin and light hair and is wearing a pink and white shirt with a unicorn on it and a pink and white skirt.

When Harlow Shapley received a letter from Hubble containing the evidence that the spiral nebulae were separate "galaxies", he said: “This is the letter that destroyed my universe."

Shapley had believed the Universe contained just one "Big Galaxy" - our Milky Way. Now we know there are ~2 trillion!

VAR!

In the early morning hours #OTD in 1923, Edwin Hubble took a photo plate of M31 that showed a Cepheid variable star.

Using Henrietta Swan Leavitt’s distance-luminosity relationship, Hubble concluded that M31 is another galaxy outside the Milky Way. 🧪 🔭 ⚛️

Photo plate of Hubble's famous "VAR!" discovery. This is a photonegative plate of an image of the Andromeda Galaxy, with several small annotations made in grease pencil. One of them was previously marked "N" for "nova," but the N has been crossed out and replaced with an excited "VAR!" to indicate a Cepheid Variable.
