On the way to interview participant number 6 this morning, which means I've made it halfway through my planned number of interviews.

Thanks to all who have shared this around ❤️

How do the 'second-gen' make sense of who they are?
How do discourses of 'Irishness' influence how they talk about belonging.

The stories I have heard so far have been incredible, full of humour, candid vulnerability, and agency. I am really excited about where this research project is going.

What does it mean to call Ireland 'home'?

This is what I'm trying to find out - still looking for suitable participants!

Please get in touch if you or someone you know might be interested in sharing their story.

Electricity is gone but thankfully I'm a self-proclaimed Luddite who has had enough blue light to last me a lifetime.

It is getting dark though...

It's like something stupid and (in their eyes) funny gets passed around the WhatsApp group, and their first thought is "this would be perfect for the official Insta/X account"

I might be slightly exaggerating, but I'd say around 7 million inches of rain has fallen in Limerick today

The analysis is going well at least

in a world of swimming caps the bald man is king

Yeah no surprise there, but the apparent lack of preparation was still shocking.

Connolly steadfastly refusing to join in the dog whistles on immigration is reason enough for me to vote for her #aras25

Desperately trying to keep my biases in check, but Connolly looks to be wiping the floor with her competition.

I'm trying to guess the pub - Tom Collins? I know Mickey's and Mother Mac's do Beamish but doesn't look like them. Or am I way off??

Massive congratulations to @marekmcgann.bsky.social on this highly relevant and important book.

I look forward to reading this when I get a chance (which is looking like around 4 years time at the moment!)

🎵 I’m a BITCH, I’m a Geordie, I’m a Scot, I’m a Nordie,
I’m from Jersey, I’m from Wales,
This card is doomed to fail. 🎵

About 10 days time they'll finally cop, and say everyone got it wrong, its a Bitch card, Britain, (N) Ireland, The Isle of Man, Channel Islands and Hebrides.

I'm really struggling to de-cypher that one!

There will always be a racist rump in any society but I don’t believe the country has become more racist it’s just the racist minority has become emboldened to say publicly and loudly what they knew they couldn’t say before. The acceptance of the normalisation and use of this language is the problem

Funnily enough it has no issues with 'molly-coddled' or 'kowtowing'

Word's transcription feature really struggles with cultural Irish words and phrases, and especially with any regional Irish accent.

I've had to correct 'baking the cabbage' and 'horning' (hurling) so far this morning...

I'm here for it all, Marc! You do you!

All this talk of the Rapture reminded me of this 1956 social psychology classic: When Prophecy Fails by Festinger, Riecken and Schachter.

Their 5 conditions /reasons why people hold onto beliefs also seem helpful for our current times .... 1/2

Thanks for the share @lokideburca.bsky.social

Interviews are happening but I'm still looking for plenty more. Would be great to get a solid representative sample of the various communities in Ireland.
