Models of everyday life were deposited in #Egyptian tombs. They were supposed to support the deceased in the afterlife. One of the most charming examples is the model of a #cow giving birth.
Carved in wood, painted.
Probably from Meir, #Egypt, dating c. 2040-1985 BC.

The shadow of figure is approaching from left. I just noticed how the arc of her back and arm moves from left to right. Then silhouetted arc at the top moves from right to left over to the shadow. Wonderful. Joe Wright was incredible.

Joseph Wright of Derby painting from Can We Stop Killing Each Other? exhibition at Sainsbury Centre. It's huge. The space above and to the right of the figures is just massive. The shadow of a figure approaching from the right is pure cinema. It's like a movie. Amazing.

Can We Stop Killing Each Other? exhibition is a great selection of disparate images with vaguely anthropological viewpoint. If you take the title too seriously you'll end up feeling a bit irritated. I loved it. www.theguardian.com/artanddesign...
