"…the butcher’s apron, to give another name for the Union Jack."
I'd not heard this before. I'd never have thought of this.
Just gobsmacked…
Nothing like refusing to place too fine of a point on a topic, you know? This really goes for the jugular. I don't think I'll ever forget it. 🏆

A "blue book", eh?

I used Firefox for a long time. It's a great design, honestly, but some sites just aren't optimized for it. It's a bit of a niche browser, after all.
I found a way to customize Edge to my taste — mostly by hiding its clutter (features I don't use and will never use).

You wouldn't believe the effort it took me to block Microsoft Edge from auto-updating itself into not being able to work, at all, with the somewhat obsolescent OS which I've chosen to use for other reasons. They're so manipulative.

Drone Lit.: characterized by extremely slow tempos, long sustained notes (drones), and heavy use of effects like distortion, fuzz, and reverb, which create immense weight and atmosphere.
Its minimalistic, hypnotic litscapes prioritize texture and mood over rhythm, sometimes bordering on word art…

I remember that. I think I actually saw that live, and recall thinking to myself "WTAF?" before coming to the conclusion that he had absolutely no idea at all what he was pretending to talk about.

He's a BS dispenser. Have never taken him seriously. All attention given to this man is wasted.

That's truly impressive. I wasn't aware of the evolved fungi actually *within the reactor* itself (!!)
I was unfortunately thinking of the massive wildlife cull the Red Army was asked to perform in the exclusion zone during the summer of 1986, however — including all dogs and other pets…

I can certainly empathize with this, especially from the Polish perspective. As I learned more about Poland's history, I understood just how deep this feeling runs.
There are (or were, at least) also strong feelings against Germany, which are understandable. But why not Austria… or Sweden?

Among those who used English as a *second* language, I'd say that Conrad was the best English language writer of all time.

While visiting Poland once, I asked the first person I met whether we were in still the CET time zone, or else +1 hour from that.
She replied (with disdain!) that Poland was NOT in the "Russian" time zone, and was definitely a part of the "west" — and shared the "western" time of day, accordingly…

"Apocalypse Now" is an adaptation of "Heart of Darkness".
Do you like Conrad?
December 12, 2025 at 2:18 PM
Poland was not well enough understood in the west as I was growing up. I refer to the Polish People's Republic, but perhaps this is still true of today's Poland.
I view Poland now as a sort of "France-east".
I also view France now as a sort of "Poland-west".
That's the scale of nation I think it is.

While I was an undergrad Freshman, I took an introductory psych class where I learned that the physical act of setting pen to paper reinforced the persistence of memories pertaining to the ideas being written about.
I've found this to be true, and still use pen(cil) and paper just about every day…

Isn't Kushner involved in the financing behind the Paramount offer? Aren't the Saudis and the Qataris?
There must be a Trump kickback in play.
