At the same time, while women might be the larger target audience for MLM stories, if you as a writer, are not keeping queer men in mine when reflecting their voice, you should not tell our stories.

And when men became a fan of the franchise, they took over the fandom spaces and pushed women out.
As someone who visited those fandom spaces occasionally as a guest, since I was a fan since the 80's. I was not surprised when all of a sudden folks were wary of me as a male presenting person.

The MLP fandom is actually a really good example of that. The MLP fandom before FiM was built by women, and it was for women.

MLM writing and book fandoms are rife with queerphobia. This is not news. It's true in romance fiction, it's true in fandom fiction like slash writing, I have seen it all over the place and have experienced it.
