Congress must STOP sending weapons and US taxpayer money to Israel NOW! www.instagram.com/p/DOGxRnbEQb...

Help Block the BombsAre you as angry, heartbroken, and outraged as I am that our US tax dollars are funding Israel’s genocide in Gaza?Call Your House Representative today. Ask them to co-sponsor H.R. 3565, the “Block the Bombs” bill, to block all future weapons sales and transfers to Israel. Here’s what you can say when you speak to a staff person or leave a message:“As your constituent, I’m outraged that the US has given Israel more than $30 billion in weapons and other support since October 2023 to commit genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. These are my taxpayer dollars. That’s why I’m asking you to co-sponsor H.R. 3565, the Block the Bombs Act. Israel has killed at least 60,000 Palestinians, destroyed hospitals, schools, and universities, and is currently starving 2 million people by denying them humanitarian aid. H.R. 3565 would block the Trump administration from delivering major weapons to Israel. Blocking these weapons to Israel is both the moral and the legal thing to do. US law prohibits weapons to any country that blocks humanitarian aid and engages in systematic patterns of gross human rights violations. I look forward to your response on whether you will co-sponsor H.R. 3565.”Use this link to find your House members and demand they co-sponsor the “Block the Bombs” bill while thanking those who have co-sponsored:www.blockthebombs.orgWant to do more?Call your senators and demand they sponsor a Senate version of the Block the Bombs Act.Find their contact information here:www.senate.govView all comments

12. Chagossians should receive significant portion of the ~£101m/year rent payments the UK will make to Mauritius for continuing to occupy Chagossians’ island Diego Garcia + for their ongoing exile from the island.
david-vine.bsky.social
Another key point about the UK-Mauritius Chagos Islands treaty: Chagossians should receive significant portion of the ~£101m/year rent payments the UK will make to Mauritius for continuing to occupy Chagossians’ island Diego Garcia + for their ongoing exile from the island.
david-vine.bsky.social
11. The treaty is also a defeat for people like Nigel Farage, Boris Johnson, Sen. John Kennedy, + right-wing news outlets who tried to peddle outrageous lies about the deal based in anti-China fearmongering in the hopes of holding onto one of the last outposts of Anglo-American colonialism.
david-vine.bsky.social
10. The treaty is also a victory (however incomplete) for small groups of people like the Chagossians + small countries like Mauritius, which have shown the world you can defeat 2 of the planet's most powerful countries in the UK + US.
david-vine.bsky.social
9. With its serious flaws, the treaty IS a victory for diplomacy + resolving disputes thru negotiations not military force. It's also a victory for international law + the International Court of Justice, whose 2019 ruling for Mauritius over the UK (+ US) forced the UK + US into today's agreement.
david-vine.bsky.social
8. The treaty does not + cannot prevent Chagossians from continuing to pursue proper compensation from the UK + US governments in courts + by other means if they wish to do so.
david-vine.bsky.social
7. The UK's £40 million payment for the Chagossian trust fund won't come until 2026 + is shockingly the same amount the UK government promised in 2016. Almost all Chagossians rejected it then + less than £1 million was ever spent.
david-vine.bsky.social
6. Mauritius should promise to dedicate ALL of the £1.125 billion in development money to pay for the resettlement of Chagossians in Chagos.
david-vine.bsky.social
5. Mauritius will receive around £3.4 billion over 99 years for allowing the UK to exercise sovereignty over Diego Garcia PLUS £1.125 billion in development funds over 25 years.
david-vine.bsky.social
4. The £40 million UK "trust fund" for Chagossians promised in the treaty is shockingly small. Divided among Chagossians, each would get £4,000-£8,000 (or less) as compensation for the theft of their homeland + more than 50 years of exile. People get more compensation in car accidents.
david-vine.bsky.social
3. Chagossians will continue to demand the right to return to Diego Garcia until they go home. The UK + US governments can + must stop violating Chagossians' human rights + allow them to return.
david-vine.bsky.social
2. The UK's continuing ban on Chagossians living on their largest island, Diego Garcia, is an outrage + ongoing human rights violation backed by the US.
david-vine.bsky.social
1. The treaty is a victory for the majority of Chagossians who supported the deal because it allows them to return to all their islands except Diego Garcia, home to the US base.
david-vine.bsky.social
Historic news! Chagossians can finally go home to most of their homeland now that the UK + Mauritius have signed a treaty for the Chagos Islands and the US military base on Diego Garcia. Here are the 11 most important things to know:

Starmer says there’s ‘no alternative’ and defends cost, saying it is ‘part and parcel of using Britain’s reach to keep us safe at home’
