Everton, cricket, music and not a lot in between.
Tonight my baby and me we’re gonna ride to the sea and wash these sins off our hands.
Lots of positive memories of Goodison Derbies which started for me at the Alan Ball Cup game in ‘67, in the UB with my Dad and Uncle.
Let’s get stuck into these one last time at Goodison, not least for all of those Blues who went before us.

Up the Tricky Toffees!

Not sure why so many write Cup games off as irrelevant when they’re our only hope of a trophy.
Disappointed to go out but fair play to Bournemouth. For them to assemble a squad as good as that on 11k home gates and no Corporate is a testimony to good management and recruitment.

It’s not taken Moyes long to work out a shape and tactics that fit with the players he’s inherited.
It also shines a spotlight on the approach of his predecessor, who had one way of playing irrespective of the opposition.
3 wins on the bounce takes the pressure off any knee jerk transfers.

Davey Moyes doing what Davey Moyes does.
Put his trust in O’Brien and playing a shape that suits the players he inherited.
Seeing the game out and keeping a clean sheet away from home will be a massive confidence boost for the team.
Another step in the right direction.

Only one game and we’ll get a better feel for Moyes’ influence after a few more but that was night and day compared to the football under Dyche, and with the same players.
We bottled the last 15 mins which flattered Spurs, but finally we’re moving in the right direction.

It’s Retro Day at Goodison and I’m looking forward to an old school David Moyes team performance and a cheeky one-nil win.

Up the Back to the Future Toffees!

The Dyche statement was an appropriate full stop before we embark on Moyes 2.0.
His tenure will likely go down as the Everton curate’s egg.
Credit is due for keeping us afloat when the turmoil was going on behind the scenes but this season weighs heavy in the debit column.

After over two decades in the Park End in the words of Bob Dylan ‘the times they are a-changin’.
It was wrench to give up a behind the goal view and ignore my usual mantra of ‘west is best, east is least’ but…

Up the Lower East Stand da’s.

Would I have liked to see a Mourinho type in the dugout, of course, but TFG has gone Hillside not Hollywood, pragmatism not romance.
Moyes is a safe appointment that demonstrates a stability first approach and a recognition that they’re taking the long road to success.

That result and performance has increased the pressure on TFG to act.
The obvious risks of removing Dyche are reducing as his well worn traits are becoming impediments.
It’s a decision they won’t want to make so early, but doing nothing could turn in to negligence.

Another point from a game most expected us to lose. Hard earned, hard work but lots of spirit and commitment.
If Dyche can pull off a couple of wins over the next few games, it’ll give TFG breathing space to get a Board in place and they can deal with on field matters in the summer.

In years to come, Moshiri’s tenure at Everton would make a superb Harvard Business School case study:

‘How to buy a Football Club, invest £750m and 8 years later walk away with the value reduced to £50m’.

If it’s on the curriculum the class would be over subscribed.

Credit where it’s due that was a disciplined and well drilled display.
Dyche set the side up perfectly to negate Arsenal, it was a tough watch and very much back to basics but based on the relative qualities of the two sides it was the best we could realistically hope for.

Usmanov and, by definition, Moshiri lost the power struggle at Arsenal and as a consequence, unbeknown to them, they inflicted a long term defeat on Everton far greater than any endured on the pitch.
The empty seat in the Directors Box tomorrow tells its own story.

After Van Dyke put his usual snide challenge in at Newcastle, there’s nothing more certain than he’ll do the same again tomorrow.
We may as well start a sweepstake on his first ‘reducer’ that’ll just get waved away.

I’m going Ndiaye in the 8th minute.

Dyche talks about the issues he’s faced since coming in to the Club but doesn’t get the irony that, had these issues not been prevalent, he wouldn’t have got the job in the first place.
The traits that got him the job, and previously evident, have been totally lacking this season.

For all the rancour and discord, imo, the only disagreement is whether a new Manager can get more out of this squad.
The Stranglers put it best:
‘Something’s happening and it’s happening right now
Ain’t got time to wait
I said something better change’

Getting beat at OT is hardly a rare occurrence but it’s the manner of the defeat that’s the concern.
This isn’t a great United side but the set up and tactics were so typically one dimensional.
Go a goal down and we never really looked like getting back in to it.

Bound to be a few twists and turns before the TFG takeover completes but if they’ve any sense they’ll wait till after the City game to complete.
Their tenure would start from a very low point for comparative purposes and they’d get maximum bounce out of the deal.

On the basis that the takeover will complete in the next weeks, Dyche being backed by the outgoing Owner and Board is immaterial.
Nothing was going to change until the takeover completes, this statement just raises fans expectations of TFG to address the situation.

It feels like Dyche has hit his inflection point with this squad of players.
The Dyche traits of fitness, commitment and organisation that masked other deficiencies look to have disappeared.
The players have been drilled into the ground and look broken by his methods.

Dycheball was always an uncomfortable compromise that we tolerated because of the circumstances he inherited.
With the sale dragging on, Dyche has gone a long way past his intended shelf life.
The League table when TFG takeover will likely require an immediate decision to be taken.

Everton Women winning the Derby is a notable achievement, winning it with a penalty for a foul a yard outside the box makes it all the sweeter.
I’d settle for that on Dec 7th and if we can have the same referee that would do nicely.

Well this is all very exciting.
It’ll be interesting to see how the structure of this new platform holds up to the weight of Evertonia fume when the starting line up comes through next Saturday.
In the meantime we have a 10 day honeymoon and can gaze longingly at the broad, sunlit uplands.
