I have this image of him as an angry teen wandering around Lincoln Blvd. in Venice/SaMo, glaring at the fruiteros with growing fury and resentment, convinced that he deserved to live north of Montana and go to Crossroads.

Lad, I don't know where you've been, but I see you win first prize.

I believe Ken also wrote the speech Reagan gave to the National Urban League the very next day.

Yes - he wrote his own weekly radio commentaries for years, and did all the research for them etc. He came to office fully formed and with a distinct writing style.

Above all, and what people conveniently forget, is while Reagan was a masterful performer, he was also well-steeped in policy and ideology, gained over 25+years in the public arena before he was President. He knew what he believed & was largely consistent in how he expressed that. Easy to write for!

I was a Dole Man from '84-'88, though in retrospect it's clear he wouldn't have been a successful president... wrong temperament. And I do sometimes wonder what Jack Kemp would make of today's Republican Party.

Def closer to chuds who think the highest purpose of government is to create viral content for the lulz.

And as crazy as that still is, it still makes more strategic sense than the current nonsense.

"Great party, isn't it?"

My issue w/ OBAA was that the centerpiece sequence of the ICE- style raid of the town went on unbearably long and the atonal music choice, designed to provoke discomfort, succeeded too well - it was physically difficult to sit through the sequence. Made the film more of a drag than it needed to be.

Not enough attention is being paid in L.A. to the 1/26 launch of Murdoch's "The California Post" which is HQ'd on the Fox lot. The hollowing out of the LA Times & local media, and the flabbiness in L.A.'s civic culture, has created a perfect storm of opportunity; Murdoch was sharp enough to see it.
January 13, 2026 at 8:26 PM
Could we really tell the difference though?
January 13, 2026 at 5:13 AM
Politically, the entrenched powers in L.A (and Sacramento, to a lesser extent) may not appreciate how this may disrupt the current political dynamic. They'd do well to pay attention. L.A.'s political liberalism is one of convenience and happenstance; it's not rooted in robust legacy institutions.

I suspect this is as much about forcing him off the board after a new Chair is installed.

This is "Sleeper" willed into being.

...and if he didn't attend the 2012 WH Correspondents Dinner.

One suspects that Powell wouldn't put this video out unless he knew the major banks - particularly Jamie Dimon - was going to go public with their support and warning to the president.
January 12, 2026 at 2:17 AM
(Also, whether Jamie Dimon makes a statement tomorrow.)

Sharp market watchers will be paying attention to capital outflows over the next few days, and who's ordering them.

These skeets are among your best, Ken. 10/10, no notes.

Apparently, the secretary of that particular department prefers to hold something else...

I mean...
January 11, 2026 at 12:49 AM
Sir, as you know better than anyone, Republican voters and institutions tend to be monarchical and support the next in the line of succession. I suppose the question is whether in 2028 that is the political line or the hereditary line. Ultimately I think the political line prevails.

Sorry, I was on mute.
