We were extremely disappointed to hear about the harassment that Lee Peart and Rosie Jones were subject to on their way back to London after performing at Down the Hatch on Sunday night.
Down the Hatch is a queer and inclusive comedy night, where we have created a space to celebrate and platform a variety of performers including those who are queer, POC, people with disabilities and from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds.
Lee Peart is our resident MC for Down the Hatch and has helped make this night what it is. We are proud of the many acts we have had as well as those that will be coming to the venue soon to keep building this brilliant event, and of the safe space we have created.
We want our performers and audiences to have a nice time at our shows; to have fun in a safe and accepting environment.
The safety and wellbeing of our performers is of the utmost importance. We are particularly saddened to hear that Lee and Rosie were at the receiving end of this hate whilst taking the train after our event, and were targeted for the very things we celebrate.
Komedia has been at the cultural centre of Brighton, this city with its rich and vibrant queer culture, for over 30 years. This behaviour is not tolerated in our venue, and we would hope to find the rest of the city and indeed the country as a whole equally keen to unite against intolerance and hate wherever it's found.

Tbf I think she's right. That Joanna Cherry situation showed you can't let some arsehole book your venue then cancel it without them going nuclear about it.

And I thought these people thought trans women were predatory heterosexual men, but now Kate here is talking gay people.

Huge hate-filled rallies allowed to take over London while smaller protests calling for the cessation of a genocide are stamped on.

The solution isn't worse of the same (i.e. voting Reform instead of the Tories), it's actual change and the establishment fears it because stability isn't profitable.

Jewish people are being murdered as they go to pray.

We're no. 22 out of 23 European countries when it comes to LGBTQ+ rights with hate crimes on the increase and Starmer etc pouring petrol onto that bonfire and vexatious anti-trans litigation being bank rolled by billionaires.

Sadly, the UK is not tolerant. Jenrick being openly racist and backed by Badenoch who's just making random pledges to bribe the electorate now.

Had a bit of a detour doing some research for work and was reminded of Karl M. Baer. He wrote a fictionalised account of his life that was made into a movie in 1919... the movie no longer exists cos of the Nazi's.

Cos that's what Nazi's do, erase people.
