Me too. I also remember him reading Rumpole of the Bailey - there was always some wild emphasis in the way he'd deliver a sentence.

My lunchtime walk today has seen me go in search of a transmat device in the basement of this building

Zero understanding from Kemi Badenoch that "go back to where they came from" is a phrase that has traumatised generations and will likely be doing so again now. Or maybe she has total understanding - I don't know which is worse.

Ha! That is exactly what would happen, yes.
davidebrown.bsky.social
Yes! Though I don't think George would approve of the current colour scheme.

All three lived within five minutes of each other in Chelsea. Love to think they were rubbing shoulders while shopping on the King's Road.

Wandered by a house today in Chelsea that was owned by a famous fictional creation.

Dug this out of the Radio Times archive. Some viewer feedback from 1982 on Patricia Routledge's performance in Alan Bennett's A Woman of No Importance. #PatriciaRoutledge

RIP Patricia Routledge.
She once walked the Pennine Way in slingbacks in an attempt to publicise mental health.

Whenever I get overly sentimental about 1980s' Children's BBC programming, I remind myself that Treasure Houses also existed.

I think it stands up well. The latest version didn't unsettle me at all. You?

I guess too few people will actually remember that ending for that to really work!

Father Brown hasn't done too badly for himself in the meantime? Granted, he's serving a different market. But maybe not radically different.

Keeley Hawes and Matthew Macfadyen together on screen again!

I don't think I saw that - Tamzin Outhwaite, right? She was also in a series called Redcap, which I thought would be bigger than it was.

Yes, Apparitions was pretty good too. I remember myself and my boss at the time, Alison Graham, both enjoying it.

The show I wish they'd bring back (and still have no real understanding of why it disappeared) is Sea of Souls. Remember that?

Ha! I had admittedly forgotten about that clunker.

Ready to welcome October into my home so that the spooky viewing and reading can begin...

The pull of the "Chosen One" narrative is strong. Writers feel the need for a lead character to have a special destiny. Blame the popularity of Harry Potter or Frodo or Buffy or Luke Skywalker or Jesus.

Yes, but to be honest, some of those six-parters could do with being four-parters. In my opinion, anyway. There's always a point in every story where it's basically just the two of them walking in and out of rooms for a bit to fill the run time.
