MURDER THE TRUTH is finally out in the world!

The book reveals how a group of conservative lawyers, activists, judges and politicians have waged a years-long and increasingly successful campaign against press freedoms and the First Amendment.

Qatar’s efforts to woo Trump by investing with Steve Witkoff were explicit. We reviewed a memo where the strategy was laid out, and Qatar’s lobbyist confirmed it on the record. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/26/b...

The Qataris ultimately invested in several Witkoff deals.

Witkoff’s son Alex recently solicited billions of dollars from Qatar and other Gulf countries for an investment fund.

After @nytimes.com asked about it, Witkoff said it had abandoned the planned fund. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/26/b...

I experienced this last week & refused, saying I had never before been asked to provide the names of any analysts I was planning to quote to get a comment. Spox replied that maybe they were D donors. (In that case, it was 3 retired top military JAG officers.) I guess that was not a weird oneoff.

we wrote about this WH tactic recently. they’re asking journalists for expert source names and then using them to look up political donations in FEC records to try to discredit those sources as biased.

I had this exact same experience this morning. Same reporter as Heidi.

This is *not* normal.

I have spoken to the press on these issues for two decades. No government official has ever demanded to know my identity in order to give a comment on a story.

To be clear, the judge is not ruling on the merits of Trump's legal claim. He is saying the complaint itself is improper because "a complaint is not a public forum for vituperation and invective — not a protected platform to rage against an adversary."

I don't think I've ever seen a lawsuit tossed out of court this quickly. The NYT hadn't even filed a motion to dismiss.

Trump's lawsuit accused the NYT and four reporters of defamation for their groundbreaking reporting about his finances and career, among other things. The lawsuit was widely regarded as an attempt to intimidate and harass independent media. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/16/b...

Federal judge tosses Trump's lawsuit against the @nytimes.com, less than four days after it was filed. The ruling calls the lawsuit "improper and impermissible." Trump is allowed to refile a new, shorter complaint if he wants.

A side note: Today’s lawsuit against the NYT was filed in federal court in Tampa. One of the judges there is Kathryn Mizelle, a Trump appointee whose husband Chad is a top official in Trump’s DOJ. Might be a coincidence — I don’t know. (Both are alums of Jones Day.) www.nytimes.com/2022/08/25/m...

The constant drumbeat of threats and libel lawsuits from Trump and his allies is increasingly worrying media lawyers at this conference. They fear that it will deter some smaller news outlets from aggressively covering Trump — which is probably the point. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/03/m...

“Question,” Epstein wrote to Maxwell on May 23, 2008. “Which one do you prefer,,, lewd and lscivious conduct ,, or procuring minors for prostituion.”

At the time, he and his star-studded team of defense lawyers were closing in on a generous plea deal with federal and state officials in Florida, and Epstein was trying to negotiate the state charges to which he’d plead guilty. Maxwell’s response was matter-of-fact:
