Originally from UK now a Hamburger
It's extremely frustrating. When DB works it is really good, fast and comfortable but that is rare these days. I saw both sides recently on day trip to Düsseldorf from Hamburg - outbound was punctual but the return trip was almost an hour late (just under the delay compensation level).

Another cross-over may be the people working on cave radios - surface to underground communication using VLF radio e.g. bcra.org.uk/creg/
British Cave Research Association
We are a charity that promotes the study of caves. We issue research grants; organise meetings; manage a library; and operate the British Cave Science Centre and its climate-monitoring projects.

That post has inspired my latest Christmas present (fortunately the book is available from Amazon in .de. A post about the case by @davidallengreen.bsky.social would be the topping on the dessert.

That's wonderful - the perfect antidote to a US Department posting AFD messages a bit further up my timeline

I came across the super duplex steel segments years ago when they were being machined at a Weir subsidiary in Bristol.

I suspect that for every party member leaving there are many more long term Labour voters (but not party members) who will be withdrawing their support.

Sadly no Beetleljuice reference in there

That looks right. There's a FB post with track layout www.facebook.com/groups/rtsou... I understand that the original planning condition required that it was returned to agricultural use after project completion.

Interesting discussion. Could the former HS1 logistics site at Beechbrook Farm be reactivated? (I believe that it was returned to fields)

It is often said that the UK Government don't make passport controls on leaving the country. So where is data coming from - the airlines and ferry operators?

Thanks for highlighting these - they're very good! I'm quite surprised by DB doing this as self-deprecating humour is not as big a thing in Germany compared to the UK.

I find it surprising that in the high profile cases that inevitably attract a lot of media and public attention they haven't taken more care to ensure that all is procedurally correct.

Also UK citizens who have lived abroad and have non-UK partners will now face even higher hurdles if they wish to re-establish their lives in the UK.

Interesting to hear on NDR radio this evening that part of the current military exercise "Red Storm Bravo" was a demonstration of a drone catcher www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7Az...

I wonder if it will evolve to cover the regression to doctor's prescription handwriting?

East Kent, a dangerous place. Go a little further north to Hernhill and the site of the last battle on English soil (allegedly).

I had the misfortune to spend a couple of nights in the Stockport Britannia over 30 years ago. It was dire then and I can't imagine that it haas improved with age.

That bridge has been extremely useful a couple of times for me when there has been a last minute platform change.

I fear that many governments fail to seriously address demographic changes as the impact is spread over multiple terms of office. That said, immigration policy is one of the few things that could be developed in one parliamentary term to address the problems.

I was talking to someone at the weekend who said that they had seen a wolf near Ohlendorf. Both parties disappeared quickly in opposite directions

Another excellent account of a fascinating journey. A rather different pace this time without having the tension of tight connections which well matches the narrow gauge trains.

Were they originally the same as the Danish rubber fronts that I often see on the Hamburg-Copenhagen route?
