Sadly, it's about to be a banner year for couples therapists.

Therapists spend their lives helping people through their darkest hours, but the most agonizing conversations are with clients who are forced to suspend therapy because they're suddenly hit with unexpected medical expenses. The American health care system can fuck all the way off.

I encourage therapists everywhere to raise their rates for Republican clients. Just explain to them that unfortunately, empathy is not an American product, and due to Trump’s tariffs, our costs for emotional intelligence have increased dramatically. #FAFO

The culture-related diagnostic exception is doing so much heavy lifting these days. It's literally the only thing keeping a third of the American population from a very real diagnosis of persecutory and/or grandiose type delusional disorder.

This place isn’t an echo chamber. It’s a symposium. Wear your nametag. Listen to those you respect. Engage in polite discourse. Oh, and the very best part, if you act like a belligerent asshole, you will be escorted out by security.

Speaking on behalf of my team of therapists in a red state, this has been one of the most difficult weeks of our professional lives. We're seeing a spike in anxiety and depression, a significant increase in relationship distress, and massive amounts of grief. Our clients aren't doing well either. 🙃
