Sounds horrible! How’d it get granted, did the examiner not have a problem with the language? I have a vague memory of a US examiner once saying “this was written by a non-native English speaker” in a case because there were discrepancies bw is/are.

Yes. As they say, you know one when you meet one. Difficult with data. As I read the paper I was sitting with a patent where name analysis would have been accurate but citizenship useless as Sweden has been kind to my clients (and me).

The paper was ok. It listed a number of different techniques, including the two from the graph, described the drawbacks with each of them and what each would misrepresent. A big portion of the paper is just: “it’s difficult to identify a migrant based on patent data”
