Deliberately adding a few unusual twists to my application cover letters. Just making sure a well-written document doesn't create suspicions of AI use. 🤓

Serious question: What’s the point of making the reference list part of the word / page limit?

You enter academia, worried if you can master the intellectual challenges, the pressure, the funding limitations. A few years in and your principal foe is the Word Limit!

The fact that even the most recent #CONSORT reporting guideline still uses grandad’s self designed MS Word flow diagram as official template is beyond me.

Happy box-juggling with anything that's not a 2-armed, single time point study! 🤡

…but means for editors that one inevitably ends up with manuscripts one barely understands- making finding reviewers even harder than normal. I try to pre-select carefully what I handle, but suspect this partially explains your observation of mixed quality.
davidhosch.bsky.social
Well observed! As one of their editors, I rarely use the automated reviewer suggestions as I found them not useful.
Still, methods are such a broad field and BMC MRM does not triage based on suspected impact - ie they also send out quite niche stuff for review. That’s great about the journal…

Just got a manuscript back from a journal: 3 very manageable comments from reviewers - and 28 (!) from the editor about formatting and gimmicks like highlights etc…
