Yes MLK blvd area can be rough. But keep in mind I was across the street from St. Michael’s Medical Center. Same blocks as all the fraternities for NJIT. That immediate area was relatively safe due to closeness to the colleges.

I lived on MLK blvd by Rutgers and NJIT until 2004-2005. Then I moved to Clifton Avenue. I lived across the street from the big cathedral. That’s where my car was broken into and very close to where I was robbed at gunpoint 6:30 am, walking to Broad st train station

which is town next to Newark. It was like night and day. I loved living in Harrison, but moved back to South Jersey in 2014 to help my parents. Newark was crazy!!!!
