Trying to be in the world in a way that honors truth and that increases love and lessens suffering. I don't succeed all the time. Sometimes I do.
Seems like somebody needs to re-listen to "Revelation (Mother Earth) and "I Don't Know" and remember what those songs are about.

I've disagreed with presidents often and often I haven't liked their actions, but being insulted by my president is a fucking first.

Fuck this guy.

Between making the fire roasted salsa, the TVP hamburger, and the refried beans all from scratch, those burritos probably took a good 6 hours of work. It was a lot of vegetable prep work. But the end result when it's good and you know you've made it mostly yourself--worth it.

Few things make me sigh quite so hard as when somebody launches into a lot of generalizations about men and I think that their generalizations do not at all describe the person I want to be but I know that saying as much will only get me labeled as some kind of cuckolded beta male failure.

A part of me that says I shouldn't give a damn about the political views of somebody I would be hiring to do a plumbing job.

A part of me that says that if anybody wants to go on PublicSquare and identify themselves as an "anti-woke" plumber, then I can hire someone else for that job.

It's no kind of compensation for everything else--and Chaplin said he would never have made the film if he'd known about the Holocaust--but the best thing Adolf Hitler ever did was to inspire Charlie Chaplin to make the Great Dictator.

Is someone out there making such brave satire now?

I hope so.

We've got movie sign.

I first saw this maybe 15 years ago, and it's been one of the movies I've thought most about since. I've seen thousands of horror films and only maybe a handful that are half as *haunting* as this movie. One might hope to have nightmares so beautiful. Time for a rewatch.

It seems like unvaccinated children dying of measles on his watch might have been something of a wake-up call for RFK Jr. As much scorn as I've had for the man, here's hoping he's able to he's able to unlearn the "truth" of the social media anti-vax movement and work at preventing needless deaths.
RFK Jr. visits epicenter of Texas measles outbreak after death of second child who was infected
U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. visited Seminole, the epicenter of the measles outbreak, which started in late January and continues to swell — with nearly 500 cases in Texas alone.

I continue to develop the understanding that the drives to punish, to shame, to blame, and to be morally outraged can derive almost entirely from the person offended and that such a person can actively seek out offense, and it continues to reshape how I think about myself and my place in this world.

I'd had a game on my Steam wishlist for some time, and it went on sale a couple of days ago, and I was able to get it for $3 instead of the regular $20. This made me quite happy. It was only after I had purchased it that I learned it was created by a Russian developer. This gave me pause.

I respect the effort that Cory Booker is putting in on this thing. It's good to see that there are people in the Senate who are not willing to accept this descent into outright autocracy and plutocracy.

I'm into S4 of Red Dwarf now and I am increasingly enjoying it. It's like having a conversation with a British friend who watched Alien and Star Trek and Robocop and all the other American sci-fi I watched growing up and who concluded "Yeah, but it's all a bit silly, innit?" and I cannot disagree.

Learning how not to be an egocentric jerkass is largely about unlearning assumptions and habits I already have. It's a slow, painful, imperfect process, and the reward is neither fame nor wealth nor power but poverty and aloneness. But at least guilt doesn't devour me alive all the time anymore.

Immigrants from Haiti eat cats and dogs and migrants from Central America are insane cannibals but we'll sell $5 million gold card visas to Russian oligarchs and roll out the red carpet for Afrikaners who supported apartheid.

You know, I have a sneaking suspicion there's some racism going on here.

Do you ever think about how much morality--about sex or food or music or anything or everything--comes down to "You aren't allowed to have experiences I don't understand and can't control/all the things that give you pleasure are excuses for me to be outraged at you?"

I think about that every day.

We've got movie sign.

I found the first film to be delightful. This one turned out to be perhaps even moreso, given that evil Hugh Grant is a camp villain sans pareil.

Between Shogun and Say Nothing and A Thousand Blows, Hulu has been kicking ass at historical dramas lately. I'm really pleased with this trend. More of this, please.

I was in the lobby, looking out the window at the clouds, and somebody passed by and said "Good afternoon." I didn't think he was talking to me. He went out, then came back in, then made it a point to stop right in front of me, look directly at me, gesture to me, and say "Good afternoon, sir."

It's been two weeks now and I'm still thinking about President Trump declaring that it is illegal to boycott Tesla.

The President of the United States thinks it is illegal to not buy a particular brand of a particular thing. A thing that costs $80,000, no less.

What law could that possibly break?

I told my partner how exasperated I was with being bullied by strangers on every Threads post.

They told me this had never happened to them on Bluesky.

I was intrigued.

It hasn't happened to me on Bluesky, either.

Other than my partner, nobody has interacted with my posts at all.

Every single day of my life I have struggled with overwhelming feelings of failure and inadequacy that have led me to contemplate suicide.

But every day now the Trump administration shows me that there is no way in fuck I am the biggest fuck-up on the planet, and I need to be merciful with myself.
